Language is the most powerful means of communication, a potent instrument of artistic expression, literary creativity and a significant medium for the expression and conservation of culture. Language, therefore, is all pervasive, indispensable aspect of mankind. Ostensibly, there exists an intrinsic form of relationship between language and literature and this symbiotic co-relation is inter-complementary. Literature represents a language or a people: culture and tradition and introduces us to new worlds of experience as we evolve our own literary journey with books. In essence, literature is a reflection of life.
Based on this premise, School of Languages was set up in December 2005 for teaching and research in major Languages and Literatures of the world particularly the major modern European & Sino-Tibetan Languages like English, Chinese, French, German, Russian, Spanish and British, American & Commonwealth literatures.
English as a language is a huge reservoir into which words, metaphors and expressions from all over the world keep on flowing. The process has been going on since Anglo-Saxon Period (650 A.D) and right till now. Therefore, as an obligatory duty School of Languages has been focusing on English Language teaching since its inception. However, foreign languages like Chinese, French, German Russian & Spanish have cumulatively formed and continue to form a kind of language bastion. School of Languages plans to add the teaching of these foreign languages in a phased manner. The process began with an Intensive Certificate course in French which the school has been offering twice in a year i.e. January & June since January 2007.
