About the Programme
Design Your Degree (DYD) is a four-year undergraduate programme at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University designed for students who want academic flexibility along with a structured university pathway. Instead of requiring students to commit immediately to a single discipline, DYD enables them to explore multiple areas of learning during the initial years and choose an approved major discipline after completion of the second year.
The programme is intended to support broad-based learning, disciplinary depth, skill development, communication, analytical thinking, and academic mentoring. It is especially suitable for students who are curious about more than one subject and want time to make an informed academic choice.
The detailed curriculum, course basket, credit structure, assessment pattern, degree nomenclature, and award conditions shall be governed by the approved SMVDU curriculum, ordinances, and applicable regulations.
Why DYD
Students get the opportunity to explore multiple academic areas before choosing their major discipline after the second year.
DYD combines academic choice with a guided University framework so that flexibility does not become confusion.
The programme encourages exposure to sciences, management, technology, languages, humanities, and social sciences through approved courses and learning pathways.
Students develop communication, analytical thinking, digital awareness, problem-solving ability, and other transferable skills relevant to higher studies and future careers.
Students are supported through academic guidance and mentoring so that they can make informed choices about courses, major selection, and future academic direction.
