Students of School of Architecture, SMVD University Student, Undertook the Architectural Education Tour

Student of B.Arch. Degree program, 2022 batch at School of Architecture & Landscape Design (SoALD), SMVD University undertook the Architectural Education Tour to Chandigarh, Shimla & Dharamshala as part of their final year Urban Design Exercise. A total of 23 students participated in the tour that was organized under the supervision of their Urban Design Subject Coordinator, Ar. Aditya Kumar Singh, Associate Professor. 

During the visit at Chandigarh, students were exposed to the Urban scale works of renowned French Architect Le Corbusier, especially Commercial hub of Sector 17, Le Corbusier works Museum & the Capitol Complex. Further, at Shimla, the students were directed to critically appraise the Urban Design of Ridge surroundings which is consisting of Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex, Town Hall & the Christ Church expressing the Gothic revival architecture along with the contemporary commercial pedestrian street. 

The last site was Dharamshala which is the Urban Design Exercise site for the students wherein the students has done the primary survey of the main spine of the Dharamshala starting at GPO & ending at Fountain chowk. The live appraisal of the site has imparted the learnings towards real values & issues of the built environment at urban scale and thereby incorporating the same in the urban design re-development proposals.

The touring team expressed the gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pragati Kumar, SMVD University for extending the wholeheartedly support to such initiatives for strengthening the field exposure of the students. 

University support to such initiatives has led the School of Architecture & Landscape Design to score the persistent rank among top NIRF institutions in Architecture category with current 23rd rank in approximately 350 schools across the country. The I/c Head of School, Ar. Abhiney Gupta, Assistant Professor & the faculty of School of Architecture & Landscape Design has congratulated the faculty coordinator & students for the successful educational tour.
