Students from the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, participated in an intensive four-day activity-based module on Design Thinking and Product Design. The sessions were led by the distinguished Prof. K. Munshi, former Professor at the Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Bombay. The purpose of the module was to provide students with hands-on academic exposure, enabling them to understand the nuances of the design process and explore advanced methodologies in product development.
During the workshop, the students and faculty members of the Bachelor of Design program had the opportunity to interact closely with Prof. Munshi, who shared valuable insights into the academic and industrial research activities of the design world. The interaction focused on the end-to-end design process, from initial ideation to the technicalities of prototyping. The visiting expert guided students through practical exercises in packaging and product design, helping them understand the various facilities and professional standards required for global innovation.
The module included students from the B.Des program who gained useful insights into material exploration and user-centric problem-solving. This experience offered them a unique perspective on how to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry-level execution. Educational modules of this kind play an important role in broadening students’ academic perspectives, providing exposure to elite design thinking environments and encouraging them to pursue excellence in industrial design and related fields.
The students expressed their sincere gratitude for the opportunity to learn from Prof. Munshi, describing the module as both informative and highly motivating for their future careers. Dr. Mir Irfan Ul Haq, Mr. Abhinav Behal faculty members of Bachelor of Design Program were also present during the interaction. Prof. Ankush Anand, Coordinator, B Design expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar, for permitting and supporting the academic module.
