SMVDU: Dr. Shafaq Rasool, Associate Professor, School of Biotechnology, and Associate Dean Academic affair (Non-Engineering) Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) was invited and delivered an insightful lecture at The Madr-e-Meharban Campus of Health Sciences, Prabha Harjilal College of Pharmacy and Paraclinical Sciences, Jammu, on the eve of Pharmacy Education Day
Dr. Rasool delivered a compelling talk on “Microbial Resistance: The Basic Mechanisms,” shedding light on the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the molecular and genetic factors contributing to this global health crisis. She elaborated on the mechanisms employed by microbes to evade antibiotic action, including enzymatic degradation, target modification, and efflux pump activity.
The lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, and students of pharmacy and medical sciences. Dr. Rasool also emphasized the importance of rational antibiotic use, antibiotic stewardship programs, and the role of researchers in developing novel antimicrobial strategies.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students and faculty engaged in discussions about emerging drug resistance trends and possible interventions.
