Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), through the School of Computer Science & Engineering (SoCSE), in association with the Board of Professional Activities (BPA), organised a comprehensive “Career Essentials: Resume and Soft Skills Workshop” for students at the University. The activity was organised by the technical clubs Code Club and Dev Growth Club, with the objective of strengthening students’ professional skills, interview readiness, communication abilities and overall career preparedness.
The workshop, conducted under the theme “Building Skills, Resumes & Professional Success,” was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and the expectations of the professional world. It provided students with practical exposure to contemporary recruitment practices and essential skills required to confidently approach internships, placements and future career opportunities.
The event commenced in the presence of Prof. R. K. Mishra, Dean of Student Welfare, along with Dr. Ankush Raina, Coordinator, Board of Professional Activities, and faculty coordinators Dr. Sonika Gupta, Dr. Sunanda and Dr. Sakshi Arora.
The workshop featured two distinguished industry professionals who brought extensive experience and practical perspectives from the corporate and professional-development domains.
Interview Skills
The first session, “Interview Skills,” was conducted by Ms. Shikha Bindra, Behavioural Coach, Corporate Facilitator, Image Consultant and Founder of Enhancity. With over 10 years of experience in behavioural development, communication, executive presence and campus-to-corporate readiness, Ms. Bindra offered students valuable insights into effectively navigating professional interviews. The session highlighted the significance of confidence, communication, professional presence, interpersonal skills and effective self-presentation in making a strong impression during recruitment interactions.
Smart Resume Building: Role Focused and ATS Ready
The second session, “Smart Resume Building: Role Focused and ATS Ready,” was delivered by Mr. Maneesh Jamwal, Director – IT Programs, an IT leader with over 25 years of experience in digital transformation, enterprise technology, mobility solutions and global programme leadership. The session provided students with a deeper understanding of how modern recruitment processes evaluate resumes and emphasised the importance of developing structured, role-oriented and Applicant Tracking System (ATS)-ready resumes. Students were guided on effectively showcasing their academic qualifications, technical skills, projects, achievements and competencies in alignment with specific job requirements.
The workshop highlighted that academic excellence, while important, must be complemented by effective communication, professional presentation and the ability to articulate one’s skills and achievements. Through its interactive and practice-oriented sessions, the programme enabled students to reflect on their own career preparedness and identify areas for improvement.
A significant aspect of the initiative was its student-led organisational effort. The event was supported by a dedicated student organising team from the technical clubs, comprising Dev Growth Club coordinators Yash Srivastava (SoCSE), Sachin Tripathi (SoCSE) and Naresh Kumar (SoCSE); Code Club coordinators Maneesh Kumar (SoCSE) and Aryaveer (SoCSE); and student coordinators Shubham Saini (SoCSE), Mukti Porwal (SoCSE), Mayank (SoCSE), Tejas (SoCSE) and Ashok (SoME). The student team contributed actively to the planning, coordination and execution of the workshop, playing an important role in ensuring its smooth and successful conduct.
The programme also fostered meaningful interaction among students, faculty members and professionals, creating an environment conducive to learning, networking and professional exchange.
The workshop concluded with a note of appreciation to the distinguished speakers for sharing their expertise and industry perspectives, and to the faculty coordinators, student organising team and participating students for their valuable contribution and active engagement.
The Career Essentials initiative reflects SMVDU’s continued commitment to holistic student development, industry-oriented learning and employability enhancement. By providing students with direct access to professional expertise and practical career guidance, the University continues to create platforms that help students transform their academic knowledge and technical capabilities into meaningful professional opportunities.
The workshop marked a significant step towards preparing SMVDU students to enter the professional world with greater confidence, clarity and competence—equipped not only with knowledge, but also with the skills to present, communicate and position themselves for success.
