First Meeting of Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDG) Cell of SMVDU Held Successfully

SMVDU: The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDG) Cell of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University convened its first official meeting, marking a significant step towards institutional efforts for equity, inclusion, and support for underrepresented communities within the academic environment. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Eswaramoorthy Muthusamy, who has taken charge as the Chairperson of the SEDG Cell. The SEDG Cell meeting attended by the members namely Dr. Kakokli Mazumdar Professor SoE, Ar. Aditya Singh, Associate Professor SALD, Dr. Kuldeep Raj Associate Professor SoM, Dr. Vivek Kumar Assistant Professor SoM and Mr. Vivek Kumar (Student Member) and Mr. Samir Vohra Deputy Registrar. Mr. Samir Vohra, in his role as Member Secretary, presented the agenda and delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on the UGC guidelines relevant to the functioning and objectives of the SEDG Cell. His presentation highlighted policy frameworks, inclusive education strategies, and mechanisms for grievance redressal and student support. The deliberations had focused on identifying key challenges faced by socio-economically disadvantaged students, setting up mentoring systems, ensuring access to resources, and launching awareness drives and support schemes. The Cell aims to create a nurturing environment where every student, regardless of their socio-economic background, has equal opportunity to thrive academically and personally. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to inclusive growth and continuous support for marginalized student communities in the University.
