SMVDU: The convention was inaugurated by Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), who served as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of quality improvement in life by utilizing the eight dimensions of quality outlined by Professor David A. Garvin. Prof. Singh also commended the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) – Delhi Chapter for its efforts in promoting the need for quality concepts across various sectors in India.

Dr. Purohit shared insights on various quality concepts during the event. In his welcome address, Mr. A.K. Verma, Honorary Secretary, expressed the chapter’s commitment to reaching diverse organizations in both the manufacturing and service sectors. He highlighted that this is the third convention at SMVDU where participants would be sharing their success stories. Mr. G. Venkataramanan, Chairman of QCFI Delhi Chapter, emphasized the importance of sharing best practices, such as structured problem-solving and Total Quality Management (TQM), with students from remote areas to achieve greater operational excellence. He noted that this effort aligns with and supports the goals of the Skill India mission.

Over the past few years, QCFI has organized conventions on TQM, Kaizen, Quality Circles, and 5S, particularly in engineering colleges and universities. In this convention, 250 participants from 53 teams representing more than 32 organizations—including Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers, Bharat Electronics, RG Industries, Hero MotoCorp, NTPC, and Tata Power—presented their success stories.

The Valedictory Session was chaired by Prof. Supran Sharma, Director of DQA at SMVDU. In his address, he stressed the importance of building a quality culture to meet global challenges. Mr. Aniruddha Kaushik, Chief Judge, congratulated all the teams and management of participating organizations for providing their employees a platform to share their success stories. He also offered suggestions for improvement based on pre-evaluation and case study presentations. The case studies were evaluated by Dr. Irfan Ul Haq, Dr. Sanjay Sharma, and Dr. Varun Dutta from SMVDU, alongside a jury from various organizations including Mankind Pharma, JCB, and Vardhman.

Students from various schools of SMVDU actively contributed to the smooth conduct of the convention. The participating teams were duly felicitated. The success of the event was attributed to the efforts of Mr. B.K. Bhatia, Placement Officer at SMVDU, and Mr. Ashwani, Ms. Ankita, and Mr. Santosh from QCFI Delhi Chapter. Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, conveyed his thanks to QCFI for organizing the chapter convention at SMVDU and emphasized the effective use of quality circles in solving day-to-day organizational problems.
