Vikalp – A students’ initiative at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVD University) organized computer course entitled, “O level Computer Foundation Course” from April 03, 2017 to April 25, 2017. More than 90 students participated in it. The course was free of cost and the targeted group was children of nearby rural areas of SMVD University ranging from standard 6th to 12th.
Students were taught applications of computers, types of computer, main components of computer, input and output devices, operating systems, types of computer networks, etc. The event was coordinated by Mr. Rajat Kumar Mishra (Student Coordinator, Vikalp). Mr. Raj Kamal, Mr. Ajit Kumar, Mr. Piyush Saini, Mr. Rahul, Mr. Ashutosh Yadav, Mr. Rameshwar, Mr. Raju Kumar, Mr. Anand Bharti, Mr. Nitish, Mr. Rishabh Kamboj, Ms. Guneet, Ms. Neha Sharma, Ms. Bharti, Ms. Devika, Ms. Neha Bandral, Ms. Shubhangi, Ms. Harshita, Ms. Medha, and Ms. Mithali were the student instructors.
An evaluation test was conducted at the end of the course. Based on the evaluation test, prizes and certificates were distributed in the valedictory session which was attended by Dr. Rakesh Jha (Asst. Professor, DoECE), Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi (Asst. Professor, DoPC), Dr. Sudesh Kumar (Asst. Professor, DoCSE) , Dr. Varun Kumar Tripathi (HoD, DoPC) and Mr. Sumanta Sarathi Sharma(Faculty Coordinator, Vikalp).
On the initiation of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SMVD University Dr. Sanjeev Jain, five computers were donated by the network section which was distributed to the toppers of the test. It was also decided to hold Computer courses for in every academic semester.
