SMVDU Katra: Vikalp – A Students’ Initiative at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University celebrated two-weeks long cultural and sports fest from 16thto 30th October 2017.In this, various events like Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, different types of races, athletics including Long Jump, High Jump, Frog Race, Balance Race, etc. were included in sports. In cultural domain events like Dance (Group and Solo), Singing (Group and Solo), Poetry, Speech (Hindi and English), Skit etc. were included. The events were categorized by dividing students in different age groups. Nearly 200 children participated enthusiastically and competitively in every event. Few performances which include Solo singing, Solo dances, Skits were phenomenal. The valedictory session included selected song and dance performances along with prize and certificate distribution. Young kids were also provided with stationary items like, pen, pencils, erasers, notebooks, etc. Chocolates, candies and other sweet items were also distributed to them.
The fest was coordinated by student volunteers of Vikalp from different department of SMVDU under the supervision of Mr. Sumanta Sarathi Sharma Faculty Coordinator, Vikalp. Dr. Madhu M. Chaturvedi Asst. Prof. SoPC and Mr. Anil K. Bhardwaj Asst. Prof. SoECE were also present for the occasion. Dr. V. K. Tripathi, Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences laid emphasis upon the Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) in his address. Vice Chancellor Dr. Sanjeev Jain wished Vikalp students the very best for their academics and co-curricular endeavors and appreciated the efforts of student volunteers for helping the under-privileged children of nearby villages.
