Starting Library with the number of only 2000 Books by 19th August 2004, within a short span of time the library has acquired more than 54,000 Books & more than 3000 CD/DVDs collections.
Library has shifted to its new Building on 26th July 2010 The Central Library building in 36000 Square yds area & is being covered with a various separate sections consisting Acquisition Section, Technical Section, Circulation Section, Reference Section, Periodical Section, Text Book Section, Computer Section, Reading Section, Photocopy Section for the benefit of students, faculty & staff. More quality Books are being added to the library on a regular basis. Quality of education largely depends upon the collection of the books & other material in the Library.
The Central Library collection encompases Management, Economics, Engineering, Architecture, Sciences, Philosophy, Culture, Religion, English, Dogri, Hindi, Punjabi & Urdu Literature.

All the students and employees of the University are eligible for membership of the Library. The registered members are issued bar-coded library membership cards. The categories of the Library members are Students, Faculty Members, Staff Members and Research Scholars. At present, Library is catering to the information needs of more than 1800+ users with the help of its trained professionals.

The SMVDU Central Library provides access to more than 46,409 online journals & 2,695conference proceedings through eShodhSindu Digital Library Consortium, INFLIBNET and also to subscription based e-resources from various suppliers & renowned publishers.
The Central Library has integrated Library Management software e-Granthalaya 4.0 with all the modules for the Library housekeeping operations. Users can find the latest additions of books and periodicals in the Library, status of books (issued/on-shelf) and books issued/ overdue against his name. Using e-Granthalaya 4.0 web OPAC users can search the Library Online Catalogue by Authors, Title, Subject, and Keywords. Library catalogue is automated and fully indexed.
The entire Library collection is Bar-coded. Bar-coded Library cards are printed inhouse in theLibrary and are issued to the members. Barcode technology enables circulation of books in easy, reliable and user friendly manner. Apart from this, the user can download e-Granthalaya app from the Google play store on their smart phone to find the status of books issued in their name, overdue, fines, etc.
Library is providing access to its users to online periodicals & various information resources from 50 internet computers located at different sections.
Digital Library is equipped with 30 internet PCs. Various subscribed as well as open access, e-Resources can be accessed by the students, scholars, staff and the faculty members of the University through Digital Library.
In the year 2008, the Virtual Digital Library was established with various online reference resources and access to open journals are also available.
Library provides photocopy service to the users against a nominal charges. At present Library is equipped with three Canon photocopying machines. All these machines are placed at different utility locations in the Library.
Apart from the above, Central Library is equipped with FAX Machine, Computer Printer and a Scanner.
Library also provides Current Awareness Services & is involved in Selective Dissemination of Information.
In order to avoid any sort of plagiarism issues and improve upon the quality publications from the University and also improve the quality of the assignments submitted by the students of the University, Library has deployed Anti-plagiarism softwares TURNITIN & URKUND.
Library is also actively depositing quality Ph.D Thesis to the repository of Shodhganga of INFLIBNET (Information and Library Networking) Centre INFLIBNET is an Autonomous Inter University Centre (IUC) Of University Grant Commission(UGC).
It is not possible for any Library to procure all books or subscribe to all journals. Hence, to get books on loan basis or journal reprints on request is possible through DELNET( Developing Library Network), Delhi. Library is a member of DELNET since 2007. We procure books on request through inter loan (ILL)from the DELNET.One can also find out the books or Journals available in various libraries in India with the help of Union Catalogue of DELNET.
Library is equipped with 80 computers total. Recently Library also procured 2 Blade Servers from UGC Fund.
For power backup to all computers in the library FOUR numbers of Online UPS is available in the Library. The helps minimizing data loss and unwanted record freezing/Jamming due to unwarranted unsystematic shutdown of a system caused by power failure.
