Dr. Bhavna Kaul conducted session on “Hygiene and Mental Wellbeing” at SMVDU
Dr. Bhavna Kaul, the Professor and Head of the Department at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College and Hospital Jammu, conducted an interactive and informative session on "Hygiene and Mental well-being; during the 2024 student induction program at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
Dr. Kaul emphasized the importance of physical and mental hygiene as essential tools for leading a healthy and balanced life, improving emotional resilience, stress management, and overall well-being. She explained ways to maintain mental hygiene through regular practices that help preserve emotional, psychological, and mental well-being. Professor Balbir Singh, the Dean of Academic Affairs, expressed gratitude to Dr. Kaul for guiding the newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, Associate Dean of Academics (Engg.), and Dr. Kamaldeep, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, coordinated the event.

Expert Talk on Drug Abuse Delivered by Dr. Beena Jad at SMVD University
As part of the ongoing student induction program for first-year students at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Dr. Beena Jad, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Lab Medicine, delivered an insightful lecture on the critical issue of drug abuse. This expert talk, a crucial component of the induction program, was warmly welcomed by Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs at SMVDU, who emphasized its importance for the youth.
Dr. Beena’s presentation highlighted the severe consequences of drug abuse, including its impact on mental and physical health. Her talk aimed to equip students with knowledge and strategies to avoid substance abuse and understand its broader societal effects.
The session followed an earlier presentation by Dr. Varun Dutta, Nodal Officer for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at SMVDU. He showcased various videos demonstrating the harmful effects of drug abuse. The session ended with a Q&A session. Earlier, before this session, Mr. Sumant S. Sharma, Assistant Professor, SMVDU, delivered an engaging talk on “Harmony in Relationships,” further enriching the students’ orientation experience. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Pragati Kumar, emphasized the holistic development of students through active participation in academic and extra-curricular activities.
The student induction program is being jointly coordinated by a team of dedicated faculty members: Dr. Pooja Sharma, Dr. Anil Bhardwaj, Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Dr. Varun Dutta, Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Dr. Amit Sinha, and Dr. Kamaldeep. The program aims to provide new students with valuable insights and guidance as they embark on their academic journey.
Lieut. Dr. Pankaj Mehta Delivers Inspiring Talk on Role of Youth in Nation Building at SMVD University
In a significant session of the ongoing student induction program for first-year students at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Lieut. Dr. Pankaj Mehta, Associate NCC Officer, 4 J&K Battalion NCC, delivered an inspiring lecture on “Role of Youth in Nation Building.” The talk underscored the vital contributions that young people can make towards the development and progress of the nation. Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs at SMVDU, welcomed Lieut. Mehta and highlighted the importance of this lecture for the youth. Prof. Singh noted that understanding their role in nation-building is crucial for the students as they begin their academic journey.
Lieut. Dr. Mehta’s talk focused on motivating students to become disciplined and responsible citizens. He emphasized the importance of values such as integrity, dedication, and commitment to the nation’s welfare, inspiring the students to actively participate in societal development.
The expert talk was preceded by an introductory session on the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by Dr. Varun Dutta, NCC Coordinator at SMVDU. Dr. Dutta provided an overview of the NCC’s objectives and its role in instilling leadership and discipline among youth. The student induction program is being jointly coordinated by a dedicated team of faculty members: Dr. Pooja Sharma, Dr. Anil Bhardwaj, Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Dr. Varun Dutta, Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Dr. Amit Sinha, and Dr. Kamaldeep. Dr. Maruti Sharma, a distinguished professional in the field of mental health and wellness, conducted an interactive session on “Master Your Mind for Success, Happiness, and Harmony” for newly admitted students under the Student Induction Program-2024 at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. During the lecture, Dr. Sharma emphasized the importance of mental clarity, emotional balance, and mindfulness as essential tools for achieving success and maintaining happiness and harmony in life.
Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs, expressed gratitude to Dr. Sharma for his valuable contribution to the SIP-2024. “Dr. Sharma’s lecture was not only enlightening but also empowering. It provided students with the tools they need to navigate their academic journey with a positive and proactive mindset,” said Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, Associate Dean of Academics (Engg.) and Coordinator of the Student Induction Program.
