SMVDU’s Nivedika Kher Presents Innovative DTMF-Based Home Automation Research at ICRASET 23 Conference

Ms. Nivedika Kher, a final-year student at the School of Electrical Engineering (SoEE) at SMVDU, presented her research paper at the International Conference on Recent Advances in Science and Engineering Technology (ICRASET 23). This conference, sponsored by AICTE and IEEE, took place at BGS Institute of Technology,Mandya, Karnataka, on 23rd and 24th November 2023.Her research paper is entitled “DTMF-Based Digitally Controlled Home Automation: Hardware Experimentation and Implementation.”The main objective of developing this hardware research project was to enable remote control of home appliances through a reliable and functional physical device. The project methodology utilizes the Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency system, which eliminates the limitations of conventional wall switches requiring physical proximity for operation. DTMF allows users to control their utilities by dialing a selected number for a specific load. This technology enables users to send commands to control home appliances using a phone, without requiring a microcontroller. Users make a call, and the system can receive commands from a mobile phone to operate home appliances. This research aimed to investigate the hardware aspects of this system and analyze its practicality for real-world applications. The presented paper will be published in IEEE Xplore. This accomplishment highlights her commitment and the excellence of her research, serving as evidence of the School of Electrical Engineering’s stringent academic standards and the opportunities it affords at SMVDU.
