School of Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is the foundational pillar of our modern world, laying the groundwork for sophisticated infrastructure, safe transportation systems, and sustainable urban development. It combines mathematical precision, scientific insight, and practical knowledge to design, build, and maintain structures that withstand nature’s forces and serve society’s needs. From roads, bridges, dams, and buildings to water supply and waste management systems, the fruits of civil engineering are ubiquitous in our everyday life. Beyond traditional areas, today’s civil engineers are also playing a significant role in tackling climate change, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing disaster resilience. This course empowers students with a robust skill set to contribute significantly to shaping a resilient, sustainable future.

Quiz Competition on IS: 456-2000  “Plain and Reinforced Concrete – Code of Practice”

A Quiz Competition on applying IS: 456-2000 “Plain and Reinforced Concrete – Code of Practice” was successfully organized on April 22, 2025, by a dedicated group of second-year B.Tech. Civil Engineering students Rydham, Dhruv, Aakarshan, Krishan, Navleen, and Khusheeba. The event was held under the academic guidance of Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, Associate Professor, School of Civil Engineering.

The primary objective of the quiz was to enhance understanding and awareness of IS: 456-2000 among undergraduate students, focusing on its practical applications in the design and construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structures. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, highlighting the relevance and importance of recommendations embedded in the IS 456 -2000.

The quiz was structured into multiple rounds, including a preliminary screening and technical rounds in two phases. The questions spanned various aspects of IS: 456-2000, including general design principles, structural detailing, durability provisions, and serviceability criteria.

After intense rounds of competition and display of commendable technical knowledge, the team comprising Saloni, Akshay, Deepesh, and Navarun emerged as the winners. Their performance reflected a strong grasp of RCC design concepts and the application of codal provisions.

The event was appreciated by faculty and students alike, and it successfully reinforced the importance of integrating code-based learning in academic activities. Such initiatives play a vital role in preparing students for real-world engineering challenges. Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal emphasized that this competition will remain a regular activity in the coming semesters to create an enthusiastic approach towards the school’s academic environment.

Quiz Competition-II on IS: 456-2000

Quiz Competition-II on IS: 456-2000 – Plain and Reinforced Concrete (Code of Practice) was held on April 29, 2025, organized by the second-year B.Tech. Civil Engineering students Saloni, Akshay, Deepesh, and Navarun, under the guidance of Dr. Bharat Bhushan Jindal, Associate Professor.

The event aimed to enhance students’ understanding of IS: 456-2000 through multiple technical rounds covering design criteria, durability, and acceptance of concrete. Team Smarth, Amit, Syam, and Parmarth secured the First Position with their outstanding performance.

Faculty members Dr. Vaibhav Sapkal and Dr. Naqeeb were also present, with Dr. Naqeeb serving as the event observer. The competition was well-received and will continue in future semesters to promote code-based learning and technical excellence.
