A Talk on Scientific Computing Organized SMVDU

The School of Mathematics at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, hosted an Invited Talk titled “Scientific Computing” as part of the PM-USHA Scheme. Professor Jitendra Kumar from the Department of Mathematics at IIT Ropar served as the Invited Speaker. During his presentation, he offered a clear and practical insight into the various types of errors encountered in scientific computing, their propagation, and their cumulative effects. He elaborated on the concept of conditioning — illustrating how minor changes in input can result in considerable fluctuations in output — and discussed its significance for numerical stability. He also engaged in an interactive discussion with B. Tech. Mathematics and Computing students about their internship and job placement prospects.  The lecture was attended by all faculty members from the School as well as those from other departments, research students, and especially the B. Tech. Mathematics and Computing students. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Associate Professor and Head of the School of Mathematics, who served as the coordinator of the event, introduced the speaker to the audience and welcomed all attendees. Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Assistant Professor at the School of Mathematics, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was organized by Dr. Abhishek Singh, Dr. Sandeep Bhougal, Dr. Sandeep Sharma, and Dr. Vivek Kumar, who served as the organizing secretaries.
