SMVDU Celebrates National Science Day in collaboration with JAKEDA

Institution Innovation Council and Faculty of Sciences in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) jointly celebrated National Science Day activities at SMVDU. The inaugural session commenced with Dr. Kamni Pathania, coordinator of the event, who extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests which include Chief Guest, Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor SMVDU, Guest of Honour, Dr. Prithvi Raj Dhar, CEO, JAKEDA, Prof. Ashutosh, Chairman IIC, SMVDU, Heads of faculty of Sciences, faculty members, enthusiastic students and team JAKEDA. Dr. Kamni briefed the audience about the program objectives and highlighted the importance of celebration of National Science Day. She also apprised the audience about the various activities for the event. Prof. Pragati Kumar highlighted that primary objective of National Science Day is to ignite an interest in science, inspire people, especially students, to perform new experiments, and make them aware of the latest developments in science and technology. He reminded the students of the efforts and achievements made so far, in the field of science and urged everyone to weigh up the implementation of different technologies. Dr. P. R. Dhar gave a detailed presentation on the importance of Solar Energy for sustainable future and Viksit Bharat. He discussed how, in the pursuit of sustainable energy development and security, their organization encourages the widespread adoption and usage of all forms of renewable energy, which include hydropower, solar, wind, geothermal and hydrogen energy for economic growth and prosperity of UT of J&K. Dr. Yugal Khajuria, Dean International and Alumni Affairs, SMVDU spoke about the greater participation of students in scientific activities and urged all students to develop scientific mind. Dr. Kuldeep Raj, Head School of Mathematics emphasized the relevance of scientific celebrations and motivated students to dig deeper into science & learn its utilization for public welfare.

NSD 2024 started with ashort cartoon-artistic documentary on the ‘Life of Sir C.V Raman’ and ‘The Establishment of ISRO’ to fascinate and encourage the young minds of the institution. A poem recitation on the theme “Energy Conservation” was presented by Sadhvi Sharma of School of Physics. A Quiz Competition was also organized by the Research Scholars of the faculty of Sciences to make science an interactive aspect of their life. A poster presentation on the theme “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat” and “Energy Conservation” was displayed at Matrika auditorium. The prizes were also given to the students in each category of the competition. The session progressed with an interesting Exhibition on solar technology devices displayed by team JAKEDA. The event was jointly coordinated by Dr. Kamni Pathania, Dr. Rakesh Thusoo and Dr. Sandeep Sharma.
