SMVDU Katra, April 2019. A three-day workshop-cum-training of using a 3D Printer for prototype development successfully concluded at the Tinkering Lab at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. This training session was specifically organized for the staff and students of SMVDU, interested in entrepreneurial activities and the development of prototypes of their respective products. The session commenced with an address by Dr. Swarkar Sharma, CEO SMVDU, TBIC, who interacted with the staff and students about the importance of entrepreneurship and how to approach for it, with prototype being an integral part of the final product development. Dr. Balbir Singh, Faculty Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, and Dr. Rakesh Jha, Dean, Research & Development, SMVDU, were also present and shared their opinion on how technology integration in local areas can change the life of common people. Later, the session was initiated with concepts of 3D printing, its working, method of developing different prototypes and how it is a revolutionary product which will enable users to seamlessly build the products they have envisioned. Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, lauded the efforts of TBIC and suggested the team to conduct a series of workshops on regular basis. Additionally, he suggested to have plans to expose young minds of other institutes to such technologies by inviting them to SMVDU.
