SMVDU Ph.D. Scholar presents his research work at International Conference on Recent Advances in Plant and Environmental Sciences at GNDU, Amritsar

Mr. Abhishek Bokadiya, Ph.D. scholar (Ent No. 24DBT003) from the Tissue Culture Lab, School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), represented the University at the prestigious International Conference on Recent Advances in Plant and Environmental Sciences, organized by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab on 25th August 2025.

Mr. Bokadiya made an Oral Presentation of his research titled “Medicinal Potential and Therapeutic Significance of Cheilocostus speciosus: A Multifunctional Medicinal Plant for Metabolic Health”. His work explored the medicinal potential and therapeutic significance of Cheilocostus speciosus as a versatile medicinal plant for metabolic health. The work explores its phytochemical richness, particularly steroidal saponins such as diosgenin, and evaluates its role in managing metabolic disorders including diabetes.

The study integrates phytochemical profiling, molecular approaches, DNA barcoding, and bioactivity assessment to understand its antidiabetic mechanisms, antioxidant potential, and metabolic regulatory pathways. Molecular characterization through DNA barcoding ensures accurate species authentication and helps distinguish Cheilocostus speciosus from closely related taxa.
