The School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE), in collaboration with the NSS wing of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), has launched a hands-on training program on Programming Fundamentals for school students. The initiative saw the enthusiastic participation of 42 students from Government High School, Sirah. The program is structured as a four-week series, with students attending sessions once a week. Designed to introduce young learners to the world of computers and programming, the initiative aims to foster digital literacy and spark interest in the field of computer science among rural students. The first session of the program focused on imparting elementary computer literacy, where students were familiarized with basic computer operations, usage, and essential applications. The session was inaugurated by Dr. Sunanda, Head, School of Computer Science and Engineering, and Dr. Rajiv, NSS Coordinator, who jointly briefed the students on the objectives and long-term benefits of the training. Dr. Sonika and Dr. Kamaldeep, faculty members from SoCSE and SoEE, conducted the hands-on training, ensuring an engaging and interactive learning experience for the students. The necessary lab setups were efficiently managed by lab staff Mr. Naveen Kumar and Mr. Himmat Raj, ensuring smooth conduct of the practical sessions. A dedicated team of NSS student volunteers along with the volunteers from the School of Computer Science and Engineering also actively assisted during the session, helping participants grasp key concepts with ease. The program concluded with an interactive question-answer session, where students enthusiastically participated and clarified their doubts. The initiative reflects SMVDU’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and capacity building in the region, empowering the youth through knowledge and skill development.
