aaSMVDU Katra: Dr. Balbir Singh, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, completed his Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi. Dr. Singh is also qualified as an internal auditor for the IS/ISO 9001:2015, IS/ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 18001:2007 Standards. Six Sigma is a quality improvement approach used to bring down defects level to 3.4 parts per million opportunities. Dr. Singh is planning to work for the improvement of quality level in local industries through MSME cluster and Industry-Academia association (IAC). First IAC-2017 was held in SMVDU in March 2017 and now planning for 2nd IAC in December 2017 wherein industrialists and academicians can jointly explore areas to work on issues faced by industries. The objective of this association is to work jointly in getting national and international recognition such as ZED (zero defects and zero effect), Six Sigma etc. by state industries. To further support industries, labs in the Engineering Department of SMVDU are fully equipped with production based machines and testing facilities which can be accessed by industries.
