An enthralling performance of Selas Dance and Music of Cyprus marked the inauguration of the 7th India International Folk Festival at Matrika Auditorium, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra on Tuesday. The event was organised under the aegis of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with SMVDU and was graced by the presence of Mr. Evagoras Vryonides, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Regional Director/RPO Shri Rajesh Kumar welcomed the guests and patrons and extended his gratitude to ICCR and SMVDU for organizing the event. He highlighted the importance of fostering cultural exchange and promoting understanding between different nations through the medium of folk arts and traditions.
Mr. Evagoras Vryonides, High Commissioner of Cyprus, expressed his delight at witnessing the vibrant performance of Selas Dance and Music, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of his country. He emphasized the significance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening ties between nations and promoting cross-cultural dialogue.
The Selas Dance and Music performance mesmerized the audience with its graceful movements, costumes, and enchanting melodies. The performance brought the audience closer to the rich cultural heritage of Cyprus, leaving an indelible mark on their minds. Their performance was accompanied by traditional Cypriot instruments, such as the lute, the tambourine, and the davul, as well as modern instruments, creating a mesmerizing blend of sound and movement.
VC of SMVD University, Shri Dr. Pragati Kumar, in his address, underscored the role of cultural events in promoting tourism and economic development. He expressed his appreciation for ICCR and SMVDU for organizing such a grand event and wished the festival a resounding success. He also expressed his keen desire for ICCR to organize many more such events in the future with the university.
