NSS SMVDU Organizes Mock Fire Drill in Collaboration with JK Fire & Emergency Services

SMVDU: In a significant step towards enhancing campus safety and emergency preparedness, the NSS unit of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized an extensive mock fire drill in collaboration with JK Fire & Emergency Services. The event, held on the university premises, aimed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively in case of a fire emergency. The fire safety drill was conducted by a professional team from the Kakryal Fire Station, under the leadership of Station Incharge Mr. Sansar Singh. With a clear focus on hands-on learning, the team demonstrated various firefighting techniques and emergency response protocols, giving students a close look at the equipment used to control fires and manage dangerous situations.

As part of the drill, students were thoroughly briefed by Mr. Rajinder Razdan, a fire safety expert, who explained the importance of swift action during a fire emergency. His briefing covered essential aspects of fire prevention, the operation of firefighting equipment, and evacuation strategies. Students were also educated on the correct usage of fire extinguishers, how to navigate through smoke-filled environments, and the critical role of staying calm during an emergency. The event was organized by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Programme Coordinator, and Dr. Varun Dutta, NCC Coordinator at SMVDU, who both played key roles in bringing this important safety initiative to the university. During the closing session, they addressed the students, highlighting the life-saving importance of participating in such drills.

They also stressed that emergency preparedness is not just about knowing what to do in theory but about gaining practical experience to act confidently under pressure. In their concluding remarks, the coordinators expressed their heartfelt thanks to the team from JK Fire & Emergency Services for their unwavering support and dedication in conducting the drill. They acknowledged the professionalism of the team and the importance of collaboration between the university and local emergency services in fostering a safer campus environment. The mock fire drill provided students with invaluable experience, reinforcing critical safety measures and demonstrating the importance of quick and coordinated responses in the event of a fire. Both the NSS and NCC units of SMVDU plan to continue organizing similar safety awareness programs in the future, ensuring that students are not only prepared academically but also equipped to handle real-world emergencies. The initiative was part of a broader safety and awareness campaign at SMVDU, emphasizing the university’s commitment to the well-being and safety of its students and staff.
