NSS SMVDU organized week long Fitness and life skill sessions under Viksit Bharat

The NSS Unit of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized weeklong fitness and life skills session under the theme “Swasth Bharat Viksit Bharat”. The event highlighted the importance of maintaining health along with learning practical skills that foster confidence and self-reliance.

The program began with simple warm-up exercises aimed at making the muscles flexible and preparing the body for physical activity. Students then engaged in stretching, breathing practices, and ankle-strengthening exercises to enhance stamina and balance. As part of the physical training, 100-meter and 400-meter running events were also conducted to encourage speed, endurance, and healthy competition among participants.

Alongside fitness activities, participants were introduced to practical knot-tying skills. One of the NSS volunteers demonstrated this life skill to fellow participants in a structured manner, ensuring that everyone understood both the method and the practical applications. Students practiced the Bowline Knot, popularly known as the “rescue knot” for its secure loop around the waist in emergencies, and the Fisherman’s Knot, used to firmly join two ropes. These demonstrations emphasized the importance of combining physical fitness with practical life skills to make students more confident and self-reliant.

The NSS, through such initiatives, continues to work towards building socially responsible, disciplined, and self-reliant youth dedicated to the service of the nation. The participants pledged to adopt fitness in their daily routine and contributing to the vision of Swasth Bharat Viksit Bharat.
