Inauguration of One-Week Workshop on Digitally Preserving Regional Dialects at SMVDU

SMVDU: The School of Languages and Literature, under the PM-USHA Scheme, inaugurated a one-week workshop titled Digitally Preserving Regional Dialects on February 17, 2025. The workshop, scheduled to run from February 17 to 22, 2025, aims to explore the use of digital tools and technologies for the preservation and promotion of regional dialects.The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs, as the Chief Guest, who highlighted the importance of conserving linguistic diversity in the digital age. Dr. K. K. Pandey, a distinguished scholar from the Central Hindi Sansthan, served as the Guest of Honour and emphasized the critical role of digital archives in sustaining regional dialects for future generations. Dr. Amitabh Vikram Dwivedi, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, served as the Coordinator of the workshop. Dr. Anurag Kumar, Head of the School of Languages and Literature, served as the Convener. Both outlined the workshop’s objectives, focusing on equipping participants with skills to document and preserve linguistic heritage through innovative digital practices. The workshop features interactive sessions, hands-on training, and expert talks, aiming to bring together linguists, academicians, and researchers to contribute toward safeguarding India’s linguistic wealth. The event reflects the School of Languages and Literature’s commitment to fostering academic and cultural initiatives under the PM-USHA Scheme.
