TARANG, the Electronics Society of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), organised an interactive hands-on session on laboratory equipment for 1st-year students from multiple branches, including Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Mathematics and Computing (MnC), Electrical Engineering, and Civil Engineering.
The session, titled “Exploring the Electronics Lab,” aimed to introduce newcomers to essential electronic instruments such as Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes (CROs), function generators, and other foundational lab tools widely used in engineering education and industry. Held in the university’s Xilinx Lab, the event provided students with guided demonstrations and practical exposure.
Members of TARANG explained the working principles, applications, and safety measures associated with each instrument, enabling students to handle the devices confidently.
The initiative was particularly appreciated by students from non-electronics backgrounds, who described the session as an engaging introduction to instrumentation. The event also promoted interdisciplinary curiosity, encouraging first-year students to explore technical domains beyond their primary fields.
TARANG plans to conduct more such practical and skill-building sessions throughout the academic year to support early-stage learners and strengthen the university’s culture of hands-on technical education.
