One-Day Training Program on NBA Accreditation Held at SMVDU under PM-USHA Scheme

A one-day Training Program on ‘NBA Accreditation Process’ was conducted at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. The training program was organized by Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA), SMVDU, and sponsored by Pradhan Mantri- Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan(PM-USHA), Govt. of India, aiming to build capacity and awareness among stakeholders about accreditation norms and practices. The event began with an inaugural address by Prof. Supran Kumar, Director, DQA, who outlined the significance of such type of trainings in light of evolving accreditation and data‑capture systems, stressing the need for stakeholder sensitization. He emphasized how accreditation norms are changing, and how institutions—and their faculty, administrators, and support staff—must stay updated. Following this, Dr. T. Chiranjeevi, Deputy Director of DQA, introduced the guest expert, Prof. Obbu Chandra Sekhar from the Department of Electrical Engineering, NIT Delhi. Prof. Sekhar currently serves as Dean, Planning & Development, NIT Delhi. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from all Faculty Members, including Heads and Associate Heads of Schools, Deans and Associate Deans, Member Secretaries/Coordinators for NBA Accreditation of various Schools and Assistant Directors of DQA. Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, conveyed his best wishes and described the importance of NBA accreditation in ensuring quality education, institutional accountability, and global recognition of engineering programs. He emphasized that accreditation not only strengthens academic processes but also enhances the university’s credibility and competitiveness at the national level. Prof. Obbu Chandra Sekhar, during his detailed session, shared valuable insights on the NBA accreditation process, including preparation of course files, outcome-based education framework, and best practices adopted by leading institutions. The session included interactive discussions and clarifications on documentation and assessment criteria. Through case examples, interactive discussion, and Q&A, the participants gained hands-on insight into how to align their academic programs with NBA expectations. The training concluded by Dr. Tirumalasetty Chiranjeevi, Coordinator of this event, with a vote of thanks, appreciating Prof. Obbu Chandra Sekhar for his informative session and acknowledging the collective efforts of the organizing team in ensuring the program’s success. This workshop is expected to strengthen SMVDU’s institutional capabilities in accreditation, and help ensure more robust compliance, better documentation practices, and improved outcomes in future NBA assessments.
