SMVDU Student published a Paper in Scopus-Indexed Journal

Ms. Hemani Sharma a student of B. Sc Biotechnology at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University published a research paper titled “New Insights into Recent Trends and Emerging Technologies in Apple Sorting” in the Scopus-Indexed journal ACS Food Science and Technology. In this paper, various advanced technologies have been discussed for sorting. The physical and chemical characteristics of the items are examined by using a variety of techniques, including machine vision, X-rays, MRI, and HSI, based on the optical properties. Using DIP (Digital Image Processing), a 2-d image can be prepared which is used in studying the stem and calyx parts of apple to determine the quality check. This paper throws light on the various robotics, machine learning and sensor technologies that can be used to detect the internal as well as external qualities of apples, to make it less labour intensive. The student has expressed her gratitude to the university authorities for providing her infrastructural support and shaping her research acumen and ability.
