School of Biotechnology, SMVDU organizes Workshop on Curriculum Revision and Content Development in line with NEP 2020 Guidelines

A Curriculum Development Workshop was organized by SoBT at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University to develop a holistic curriculum in line with NEP-2020 guidelines, for the Undergraduate, Postgraduates, and Doctoral programs offered by the school. The resource persons from premier national institutes and the stakeholders including the alumni of the school engaged in thorough deliberations for two days to develop a course curriculum that will meet the needs of the ever-changing industries and technologies. On Day One of the workshop, the experts and faculty members engaged in discussion and deliberation on curriculum development of the Doctoral, Postgraduate, and Undergraduate Programs and provided their insightful remarks on the required necessities and demands of the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and industry. Day two of the workshop included deliberations on the development of a robust curriculum for B. Tech. Biotechnology program to be offered from next academic session by the school. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. Madhulika Bhagat, Associate Professor, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu, Dr. Kashmir Singh, Professor and Coordinator DST Centre for Policy Research, Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. Shaikh Z. Ahammad, Professor, Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, IIT-Delhi and Dr. Pravir Kumar Professor and former Head, Department of Biotechnology, Dean Internal Affairs, Delhi Technological University, Delhi. The alumni invited to the workshop were Dr. Akshi Spolia, Miss Rabiya Tabbassum Khan, Miss Amook, and Miss Swadha Kailoo.

The two-day-long discussions included proposals to offer minor and honors degrees in emerging areas of Genome Engineering and Technology and Sustainable Energy Engineering at the UG level for the B. Tech Biotechnology program. Dr. Shafaq Rasool, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, SMVDU highlighted the advantages and scope of the minor and honors degrees to be offered by the School of Biotechnology. Dr. Ratna Chandra, Associate Professor, Head of SoBT, and convenor of the workshop also spoke at the occasion. Dr. Shafaq Rasool, Coordinator of the workshop carried out the proceedings of the workshop. The workshop was conceptualized and organized under the active patronage of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. Pragati Kumar.
