Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University celebrated World Students’ Day

The Universal Human Values Cell, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized the World Students’ Day which is celebrated on the birth anniversary of great scientist, missile man of India, teacher and former president, and Bharat Ratna, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

The event started with the National Anthem followed by Lamp lighting by dignitaries.  The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Balbir Singh, Event Coordinator and Dean Academic Affairs, SMVDU.  The Chief Guest of the occasion, Ms. Babila Rakwal, JKAS, and Deputy Commissioner, Reasi addressed faculty, staff, students and SMVDU families and highlighted the contributions of Dr. APJ Kalam in transforming India into a modern country. She appreciated the cultural performances of the students showcasing India’s cultural diversity. “Dr APJ Kalam’s has always stressed on the need to liberate ourselves from mediocrity and ignite our minds for betterment of self, society and country” she said. Guest of honour Sh. Nagendra Singh Jamwal, JKAS, and Registrar SMVDU also addressed the audience and shared the memories of SMVDU’s inauguration by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on 19th August 2004.

On the occasion a documentary on the life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was shown to the audience followed by a cultural program by students of SMVDU. The students and the teachers took an oath written by Dr. APJ Kalam emphasized the duties, responsibilities, morals and ethics for the students and teachers. Poster making activity was also carried out in this regard by Dr. Rajiv Kumar and Dr. Anil Bhardwaj on the theme of Dr. APJ Kalam and the winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries. On the occasion, a message of Prof Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU was also read which emphasized on following the path shown by Late President APJ Kalam to youths to transform individuals, society and the country into a world power.

So as to commemorate the life, works and achievements of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, an exhibition was organized by Dr. Balbir Singh showing rare collections presenting various achievements and historical incidence of Dr. Kalam in the various fronts through  newspaper cutting, posters, flyers, banners, books etc. The exhibition was inaugurated by DC Reasi and shall remain open for the next three days for the students of SMVDU and local school students. The event was coordinated by Dr. B.B Jindal, Dr. Pooja Sharma, Dr. Kamaldeep, Dr. Madhu Mangal and Mr. BK Bhatia along with various student volunteers of Universal Human Value Cell. On behalf of the organizing team, the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. B.K Bhatia, Training & Placement Officer, SMVDU.
