400th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Celebrated at SMVDU and Narayana Hospital

Sikh Sangat of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) and Narayana Hospital (NH) organized the 400th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji at Narayana Hospital.The students of SMVDU and Nursing College, faculty, staff members of SMVDU and Doctors and Medical staff of NH paid their obeisance to Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The Shabad kirtan was performed by Raagi Jatha and Pradhan Sardar Satinder Singh from District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, Udharmpur on the occasion. Further, Shabad Kirtan and poems were recited by students Ms. Navleen Kaur, Ms. Hargun Kaur, Ms. Harleen Kaur & master Harmilan Singh. Katha-Vachak, Sardar Harmeet Singh from Jammu highlighted the life history of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji.

Guru Ji was born to the sixth Guru, Shri Guru Hargobind Rai ji and Mata Nanaki at Amritsar in 1621, initially named Tyag Mal. After seeing his valour and Tegh (large sword) skill at age of 14 on the battlefield, his father renamed guru ji Tegh Bahadur, enthroned him as the 9th Guru of Sikh Panth in 1664. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is also called Hind Ki Chadar who had sacrificed his life for humanity at Chandni Chowk, New Delhi (now Gurudwara, Sis Gang) on November 11, 1675, to save guard the Sanatan Dharm from cruelty and forceful conversion to Islam under the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Various dignitaries, including Padma Shri, Professor Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Sh. Nagendra Singh Jamwal, JKAS, Registrar, SMVDU, Sh. Neeraj Gupta, JKAS, Finance Officer from SMVDU, Sh. Gopal Sharma, CAO, NH and Senior Doctor JP Singh, Clinic Director, NH reached, out to pay homage to Guru Ji and also enlightened the Sangat about the teachings of Guru Ji and his supreme sacrifice to protect religion and culture.

Organizing team including students, Dr. Balbir Singh, Associate Professor, Sardar Opinder Singh Sidhu from SMVDU and Doctor Rajpal Singh, Radiation Oncology, Doctor Maninder Singh, Mr. Jaswinder Singh and Mr. Babandeep Singh from NH administration welcomed all devotees and honoured dignitaries with Siropa as per Sikh tradition. The organizing team conveyed gratitude to the District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, Udharmpur for all support and the Ek-bani Channel team for the live telecast of the entire Guru Purab celebration to viewers of Jammu.
