Volunteers of Vikalp – a student initiative at SMVD University conducted a campaign for the underprivileged children in the nearby villages around the university. Since 2009, Vikalp has been fulfilling the social responsibility of the University by educating and nourishing the underprivileged children of the villages. The volunteers campaigned and convinced the parents to join the Vikalp program again which had been halted after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Thrity Vikalp volunteers actively participated in the campaign and interacted with the parents and children. They also introduced the community to the services being provided by Vikalp, such as education, hygiene, career counselling, sports, computer classes, extracurricular activities, and similar approaches to engage kids for their holistic development. The village community was also briefed on Vikalp’s commitment to social justice, sustainable development, and human rights and development activities and programs undertaken for the literacy of children, and adults who belong to poor and rural areas. Sumanta Sarathi Sharma, Faculty Coordinator, Vikalp appreciated the efforts made by volunteers and thanked the University administration for allowing Vikalp to again extend its services to the adopted villages under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan(UBA).
