Webinar on “Jammu -The Heritage City” organized

A webinar on “Jammu-The Heritage City & Its Recursion” organized at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). The Regional Center, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) Jammu in collaboration with SMVDU organized the webinar.Prof. Lalit Mangotra, a scholar in Dogri literature in his keynote address gave an overview of the socio-cultural development of the city. He emphasized on the importance of both tangible and intangible heritage of the city and stressed upon documentation of folklore associated with the same.

Sh. Sumer Khajuria, an advocate and author, traced the origin of Jammu to Vedic period and its references in Ramayana and Mahabharata. Sh. Suman K Sharma, writer and author, talked about the historicity of Jammu and its social and cultural landscape. Dr. Niharika Subash, Research Associate,CSSEIP, JU focused on the importance of Mal Dev ki Mandi, where the first foundation of Jammu city was laid. Dr. Ranjodh Singh Jamwal, Faculty of History, talked about the references found in Puranas about Jammu. Dr. Neelam Sareen also participated in the webinar.Sh. Virendra Bangroo, Director. Regional Centre, IGNCA coordinated and convened the webinar. He concluded by laying emphasis on concerted efforts with a multidisciplinary approach to address the Heritage documentation and conservation. Shri Sumanta Sarathi Sharma, HOD, School of Philosophy and Culture, SMVDU, thanked the speakers for the scholarly deliberations and way forward. He also thanked, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Registrar SMVDU and Member Secretary, IGNCA for administrative support.
