Collaborative Studio Organized at SMVDU

SMVDU Katra, November 2019. The School of Architecture and Landscape Design (SoALD), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), organised collaborative events at SMVDU Campus in collaboration with the School of Architecture, Jammu (SoAJ) on National Education Day. In the sequence of events, two-day joint studio was organized for 2nd year B.Arch. Students of both the Schools of Architecture. Further, special lectures were held for 3rd Year B.Arch. students of SoAJ on day two.

The program began with the formal welcome of students & faculty members from SoAJ at SMVDU campus by Head, SoALD, Prof. (Dr) Rajeev Garg. This was followed by a formal interaction between students of both the schools. The faculty members of the Schools then accompanied the students for a short campus visit to understand the context of the assigned joint-studio exercise. Students participated in the joint studio exercise which was a group based and time bound exercise where students from both the schools performed the task in collaboration. The exercise aimed at highlighting the importance of team-work and collaborative learning in architectural teaching learning process. The joint studio was coordinated by Ar. Anil Wali, Visiting Faculty, SMVDU; Ar. Anoop Sharma and Ar. Satyanshu Kumar, and other faculty members from SMVDU; and Ar. Anil Tikoo, faculty member, SoAJ. Students expressed satisfaction and enthusiasm for collaborative learning and advised the coordinating faculty members for more of such innovative learning experiences in near future. On day two, Prof. Rajeev Garg, delivered special lectures on varied topics of interest for 3rd year B.Arch. students from SoAJ. The topics included Architectural Design and Building Construction and involved students in a healthy interaction for better learning. The students also took a round of the campus and school of Architecture building premises and appreciated the experience and knowledge gained. Ar. Harbinder Pal Singh, In-charge SoAJ, coordinated the visit of third year students. Prof. Rajeev Garg, Ar. Harbinder Pal Singh, faculty members and students expressed happiness over this initiative and expressed the interest for more of such collaborative endeavours in future.
