SMVDU Katra: Adishree Vats, Research Student, School of Languages & Literature, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University attended "11- Day GIAN Course" on "A History of Oppression: Causes and Consequences,"and scored outstanding (O-Grade) in the course, organized by NALSAR University, Hyderabad, from 19 th – 29 th March, 2018.
Prof. Gyorgy Konczei, ELTE University, Budapest (Hungary), founder of “Disability Studies" and the former member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Switzerland, was the keynote speaker of the course. He introduced participants to the various faces of oppression, and further acquainted them with the role of gender, race, class, mythology and philosophy in creating a non-supportive environment, with special reference to social, physical and intellectual disabilities prevailing in Hungary, America, Africa and India. Further, Dr. Neha Pathakji, course coordinator provided insights on disability studies. Adishree is working with Dr. Anurag Kumar and Dr. Amitabh V. Dwivedi. The course benefitted her in updating the current knowledge of her research area and enhanced her creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
