National Symposium on Recent Trends in Biotechnology and Drug Discovery Inaugurated at SMVDU

SMVDU, Katra: Minister of Science and Technology, J&K, Mr. Sajjad Gani Lone, inaugurated the UGC, GOI sponsored and SMVDU supported Two Days National Symposium on Recent Trends in Biotechnology and Drug Discovery from 30th- 31st Marh, The symposium is being organised by the Department of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra.

The aim of the symposium is to bring scientists and participants from different areas of Plant, Microbial, Human Health, Yeast and Computational Biology together. Over 100 researchers submitted their research work and participated in the event from different institutes and Universities in the symposium.

Chief Guest of the symposium was Minister of Science and Technology Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Sajjad Gani Lone and the Guest of Honour was Padama Shri, Prof. R.N.K. Bamezai former Vice Chancellor of SMVDU.

Head, Department of Biotechnology and Dean Faculty of Engineering in his opening remarks highlighted the need for seeking the recent research in different aspects of Biotechnology from plants to computational biology to advancements in finding the causes of rare disorders by whole exome sequencing and NGS technologies.

Dean FoS and & Registrar wished the symposium success and all the fruitful discussions.

Guest of Honour, Padama Shri, Prof R.N.K. Bamezai, highlighted the need of bringing research to common man. He delivered the keynote address on topic “Metabolic Tuners as Potential Drug Targets in Cancer– a Biotechnological Approach to Human Disease” and enlightened the participants.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, wished the success to the symposium and stressed the need of blending of Biotechnology with the ayurveda principles.

Convenor of the Symposium Dr. Narendra Kumar Bairwa welcomed and thanked the eminent speakers from various National Institutes and Universities i.e. Prof. KK Kapoor, Jammu University, Prof. Yashpal Sharma, Jammu University, Dr. Shilaja Singh, SCMM, JNU, New Delhi, Dr. Jitendra Thakur, NIPGR, New Delhi, Dr. Fayaz Malik, IIM, Jammu Dr. Neel Sarover Bhavesh, ICGEB, New Delhi, Dr. Deepak Salunke, PU, Dr. Shaida Andrabi, KU, Dr. Rajnikant Dixit, New Delhi, Dr. Surender Nimesh, CURAJ, Dr. Biswajit Gopal, Sikkim University. He also thanked all the participants.
