Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, celebrated 3rd International Yoga Day on 21st June 2017 with a greater enthusiasm. On this occasion, a Yoga Practice and Demonstration session was organized between 5:30 – 7:15 AM inside the Matrika auditorium hall. Despite continuous rain, the students, faculty and staff along with their wards participated in the session. Mr. Gurmel, Junior Assistant in the Security Wing of the University and a trained yoga instructor, guided the participants for various yoga postures and mediation techniques. The session began with a warm-up exercise which was followed by Dandasan, Chakrasana, Dhanurasana, Pashchimottanasana, Bhadrasana, Shalabhasana, Chakkichalanasana, Gomukhasana, Vajrasana, Ardhaushtrasana, Ushtrasana, Setubandhasana, Uttanapadasana, Sarvangasana, Padahastasana, Bhujangasana, Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Trikonasana, Shavasana, Kapalabhati and Bhramari Pranayama. The session concluded with the chanting of Om and Gayatri Mantra. In the end, everyone enjoyed laughing exercise. There were three prizes declared for the best performers on the advice of the instructor. The first prize of Rs. 2000/- was shared by faculty wards Ms. Akanksha (Class XI) and Ms. Pratiksha (Class VIII), both students of MHAC, Nagbani. The second prize of Rs. 1500/- was shared by Dr. Pabitra Kumar Jena, Asst. Prof., and Mr. Sandeep Tiwari, PhD student, Department of Economics, and the third prize of Rs. 1000/- was jointly bagged by Mr. Akhil Gorkha, B. Tech student, Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering and Mr. Sudarshan, a house keeping staff. The winners will receive their prizes from Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain. The event was coordinated by Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Asst. Prof., Department of Philosophy & Culture. He delivered vote of thanks to all participants.
