A month-long training programme on enriching administrative skills was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra on 27th June 2022. The programme is being organized by the Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA), SMVDU for administrative officers to enhance their administrative skills. Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was the Chief Guest of the inaugural event. Dr. A. K. Das, Director DQA introduced the concept and course contents of the Training Programme. He emphasised on the importance of hands-on training to be provided on various topics to the participants, including Establishment Rules, Taxation, Audit, Laws related to women empowerment, RTI, Stress Management, Leadership Skills, Contract Management, Time Management and Attitude Building, etc.

Sh. Neeraj Gupta, Finance Officer & Registrar, SMVD University addressed participants and emphasised the good administrative skills and knowledge required for the fulfilment of statutory obligations of an institute, which could only be achieved by trained administrators. The Chief Guest, Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU appreciated the team for organising such a unique kind of program for Assistant Registrar, Deputy Registrar level officers, and desired that in this changing scenario such programmes should be organised very frequently for updating knowledge and administrative skills. The vote of thanks was presented by Ms Bhawna Mishra, Assistant Registrar, and Organizing Secretary of the programme. The inaugural session was also attended by today’s resource person Mr M. C. Panda, Deans of Faculties, Heads of the Schools, Dr Vineet Tyagi, Dr Kamni Pathania, Section Heads, and Participants from various states such as Kerala, Assam, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, Ladakh, Hariyana.

The industrial visit was conducted by the School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVD University, at the CIIIT Centre, Jammu in which forty-five students in the 2nd year along with senior professors and the workshop instructor visited the centre at Government Polytechnic, Jammu.The students from SMVDU visited all the 9 competency centres led by OIC from Tata Technologies Ltd. and Subject Matter Experts. The CIIIT Team informed them about the competency centres. The faculty members, SMVDU, thanked the CIIIT Team for making this programme so informative and interesting for the students and faculty.The visit was organized by Dr. Ankush Anand,Dr. Sanjay Mohan Sharma and Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Faculty, School of Mechanical Engineering.

A delegation of writers, poets and intellectuals led by Mohan Singh Slathia eminent writer, Sahitya Academy awardee and President Duggar Manch met Prof R K Sinha, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, and thanked him for introduction of post graduate course in the Dogri language.The delegation hailed the decision of LG Manoj Sinha in introducing Dogri Course in the SMVDU which would help in promoting Dogra language, heritage and culture. The Vice Chancellor, SMVDU informed the delegation that the new courses in Dogri and Hindi are being launched in pursuance to New Education Policy NEP which lays great emphasis on promotion of regional languages .Dr Sushma Rani, Dr Sarita Khajuria, and Rakesh Verma were also part of the delegation. Nagendra Singh Jamwal, JKAS Registrar and Dr Isha Malhotra HoD School of Languages and Literature were also present on the occasion.

aaThe students of School of Architecture and Landscape Design (SoALD), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi university (SMVDU), Katra, visited Chowadi, Jammu to study the site and its surrounding for the architectural design of Group Housing as part of their course curriculum. The students showed keen interest in the site visit and captured the site response through photographs, videos and measurements. Ar. Navin Gupta, Assistant Professor, SoALD and Ar. Vivek Aggarwal, Assistant Professor, SoALD, accompanied the students and explained the significance of various parameters related to the physical site analysis with respect to the Group Housing Project. The students also visited an ongoing housing project at Chowadi as part of their Case Study wherein the students were apprised about the conceptual design & planning process.

An Industrial visit was organized for the students of 3rd-year Electrical Engineering (EE), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, (SMVDU) on 08 June 2022 to Baglihar Hydro Electric Power Plant, Chandrakote, Ramban. The visit turned out to be intensely informative and enriching. The visit was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Manish Sabraj, Head, EE, SMVDU, and the faculty Dr. Gyanesh Singh, Mr. Gaurav Kumar, and Ms. Pooja Sharma.At BHEP, everyone was guided to the powerhouse complex wherein an enthralling interactive session along with a briefing on the machines was given. The session turned out to be absolutely fun as well as a journey through the practical knowledge and technology behind hydropower plants –its advantages over other generations, the generation, controlling and the insulation scheme, etc. The session was followed by a brisk question-answer round. Throughout the session, the students were guided and briefed by Mr. Sanjay Bhagat, XEN, BHEP.

The NSS unit of SMVDU in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Regional Office Jammu celebrated the 8th International Yoga Day. Vice-Chancellor SMVDU, Prof. R.K Sinha (Padamshree) was the chief guest of the event. The Yoga Session was conducted by Mr. Gurmel (Yoga instructor) and more than 400 participants attended the session. The session started with a welcome address by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Program Coordinator. A cultural group from the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Jammu gave two cultural performances on the occasion. A quiz session was also organized in which the winners received prizes. A yoga performance comprising different yoga patterns was also there by Shubham and the group. A yoga awareness rally was also organized and flagged by Vice-Chancellor SMVDU to aware people of yoga. The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Regional Office Jammu. Dean of Student Welfare Dr. H.G Mishra, Shri Madan Gopal , FPO, Anantnag, Shri Ravinder Vaishnavi, CBC, Jammu, Dr. Balbir Singh Associate Professor and other faculty and staff members were also present during the session.

Special lectures were organised on World Environment Day at School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) for undergraduate and postgraduate students by eminent speakers, Prof. Ravindra K. Sinha, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. Anil K Raina, Former Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu and Mr. O.P. Sharma, Retd. IFS.The year 2022 marks the golden jubilee (50 years) of World Environment Day and theme for the year is “Only One Earth” with Sweden as host country. Prof. Sinha emphasized the role of day-to-day activities in conservation of water, electricity, etc. and explained to the participants that how these small acts can go a long way in protection of our environment.

Prof. Raina talked about sustainable development methods that can be easily adopted and the need to realign the current development process so that the availability of natural resources can be ensured for the future generations. Mr. Sharma in his ppt presentation discussed the vivid biodiversity of flora and fauna of Jammu & Kashmir, detailing how extinction of species is progressively accelerating and impact of biodiversity in different aspects of human life. Dr. Sharda Potukuchi, Head, School of Biotechnology (SoB), was the Convener and Dr. Preeti Sharma, Faculty, SoB, was the Organizing Secretary of the event. Dr. Parvez Singh Slathia, Co-organizing Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks. The event also included the plantation of saplings of Terminalia bellirica (baheda) and Hymenodictyon orixense (Bridal Couch tree) to mark the occasion.

The NSS Unit of SMVDU organized State Level "Common Yoga Protocol (CYP)" session as a countdown to 8th International Yoga Day as SMVDU has been selected to organize this CYP session by the NSS Regional Directorate, New Delhi. The chief guest of the event was Vice Chancellor, Prof. R.K Sinha, SMVD University. The Yoga Session was conducted by Mr. Gurmel (Yoga instructor), and more than 500 participants attended the session. The session started with welcome address by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Program Coordinator. A yoga performance comprising different yoga patterns was also performed by Shubham and group. The students of Government Degree College, Katra, also participated in the event along with the NSS Program Officer, Dr. Fayaz Hussain. The Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. H.G Mishra, and other faculty and staff members were also present during the session. The event took place in the Matrika Auditorium. The performers and the guests were felicitated by the Dean of Student Welfare. The session ended with the recital of the national song “Vande Mataram” by Jasmine and team

07062022 pic1NSS volunteers of SMVDU participated in one week ‘National Integration Camp’ which was held at NSUT, Delhi. Only two NSS volunteers (01 girl and 01 boy) from each University are allowed in these camps. Each camp involves 200 NSS volunteers to undertake the scheduled activities. Sharnam Khajuria and Anmol Sharma from University participated in this national level event. During the camp, they were a part of various activities like Yoga, road safety awareness, First Aid, painting competitions etc. and they also got to attend various guest lectures from known entities. 07062022 pic2They represented the culture of Jammu and Kashmir during the cultural events through dance, music, poster making, speech, debate and skit. The students got exposure to a great extent which will definitely motivate the future members of the organisation in the University to represent Jammu and Kashmir and the University in the upcoming National Integration Camps.The National Integration Camp (NIC) is organized every year and the duration of each camp is of seven days with day-night boarding & lodging.

School of Physics, SMVD University organized an expert lecture by Prof. Pritam Deb, a renowned Professor at the Department of Physics, Tezpur University, Tezpur. The title of his talk was “Materials Science – Touching the Horizon and Feeling Beyond”. Prof. Deb addressed and introduced the faculty members and students of M.Sc. Physics, Integrated B.Sc. (Physics) – M.Sc. Physics and research scholars to the upcoming area of Mesoscopic Physics besides Magnetism in low dimension, Surface Nanoscience, Electronic Structure Calculation, and many other areas of contemporary research. He emphasized the role of nanoparticle engineering in developing futuristic applications of tremendous importance for society. The lecture was well received by the participants, particularly the students. He motivated students to take up challenging problems and go beyond their normal capacities so as to make a niche of their own in times to come.Prof. Deb appreciated the work being done by the faculty and students of the School of Physics, SMVD University.Prof. Deb is an acclaimed scientist of National and International repute and has recently been bestowed with the coveted Visitors Award for best technology development by the Hon’ble President of India during the Visitors Conference-2022. Prof. Deb is also the DPIIT Chair Professor, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell. He has also set up a central facility at the Advanced Functional Material Laboratory at the Department of Physics, Tezpur University.

06062022 news2Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, initiated a plantation drive for the 2022 season on World Environment Day on 5th June 2022. The drive was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha (Padma Shri) along with Sh. Navneet Singh (IFS), Additional Chief Executive Officer, SMVD Shrine Board. On this occasion, several types of plants including Pipal, Neem, Palash, Amla, Ashok, Loquat, Kaut, Bela, etc. were planted by the dignitaries present. Dean, Faculty of Science Prof. Ashok Sharma, Dr. M. Sharada Potukuchi, Dean, Academic Affairs, Dean, Faculty of Management, Dr. Supran Sharma, and several Heads of Schools and Sections participated in the drive. The plantation drive was facilitated by Sh. Vinay Khajuria, ACF, SMVD Shrine Board, Sh. Surinder Singh, Security Officer, SMVDU, Foresters from SMVDSB Sh. Hitesh Khajuria and Sh. Chander Kumar, Forest Watcher Sh. Subash Chander along with the helping staff members from SMVDSB Sh. Sunil Kumar, Sh. Sunil Tagotra, Sh. Ram Lal, Sh. Mohd. Sadiq, and SMVDU members of housekeeping. The drive concluded with light refreshment at the VC Residence. A vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Faculty I/C, University Social Responsibility, SMVDU.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Alumni Association and SMVDU Alumni Affairs conducted a Panel Discussion on “On the Job Stress Management”. The panellists of the event were Ms. Supriya Sharma (MBA, 2011 Batch) currently working in Yupp TV, Hyderabad, Ms. Ana Mahajan (MBA, 2006 Batch) is the Chief Manager at State Bank of India, New Delhi and Ms. Pallavi Mahajan (MBA, 2008 Batch) working as Social Media Manager at Webisdom in Delhi. The event was conducted to discuss work-related stress caused by uncontrolled pressure which undermines the performance of the employer, and dealing with it while working in an organization.Ms. Supriya Sharma said that it is impossible to avoid stress hence it is more important to focus on dealing with stress the correct way before it becomes so troublesome that it starts to affect the well-being of a person. She discussed the importance of communication to deal with stressful situations.

Ms. Pallavi Mahajan talked about how stress is just an instinctive, immediate response to deal with unknown experiences before even trying to understand the situation. It is important to be self-aware and self-evaluate to not end up in extremely stressful situations. She suggested some lifestyle changes to lead a healthier and happier life.Ms. Ana Mahajan explained how once you start to grow in both your personal and professional life, the stress you feel also increases. She emphasized prioritizing the tasks and maintaining a hobby. Dr. Sakshi Arora, President of SMVDU Alumni Association, Dr. Saurabh , Faculty I/c Alumni Affairs SMVDU, and Dr. Mir Irfan Ul Haq, member secretary of SMVDU Alumni Association added their views to the panel and thanked the participation of alumni and students in the discussions.

Further, they stressed that alumni are the best teachers and ambassadors for any institution as they can guide the students the best. Students can learn the most from their experiences. The panellists answered the questions of the participants.To conclude the event, Dr. Ankush Raina expressed gratitude towards the University and especially the Vice-Chancellor Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha, and Registrar Shri Nagendra Singh Jamwal for extending their support towards the possibility of the event. Also, he expressed special thanks to the members of the organizing committee Er. Ashish Suri, Associate Dean of Academics and Mrs. Saloni Sabharwal, Treasurer, SMVDUAA staff and faculty members and alumni members for active participation.

The NSS unit and Board for Sports Activities organized a Cycle Rally to celebrate "World Bicycle Day". The event started with the Vande Maatram song by students.The chief guest of the event, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. R.K. Sinha. flagged of the rally. He also addressed the gathering on the importance of cycle riding and emphasized that cycle riding should be a daily activity for everyone.The rally started at 6:30 am in the morning. Around 40 to 50 cyclists from the campus participated in the event and around 100 students marched past with cyclists raising slogans. All participants were filled with enthusiasm. After completion of the rally, refreshments were also distributed. The event ended with the National anthem. Dean Student Welfare, Dr. Hari Govind Mishra; NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Rajiv Kumar; President BSA, Dr. Parvez Slathia, Security Officer, Mr. Surender Singh were also present during the event.
