The Faculty Development Cell (FDC) of SMVD University (SMVDU), Katra organized an online workshop on “Plagiarism Practices: Strategies and Tools” under the (PMMMNMTT) Scheme.

Prof. (Dr.) RK Sinha, VC, SMVD University & Chief Guest of the inaugural function deliberated upon academic integrity. Dr. Suparn K. Sharma, Coordinator, FDC, provided insight into ethical perspectives and emphasized the need to develop mechanisms that promote ethical research. Dr Ashutosh Vashishta, Organizing Secretary, provided the overview of the workshop.

Many quality sessions delivered by the resource persons, chiefly Prof. R. K. Mishra of the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad emphasized the need to empower teachers to develop eco-system and to handle plagiarism effectively. Dr. NK Chauhan, Sr. Assistant Librarian, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, deliberated upon the factors responsible for plagiarism. Dr. Satish Kumar, Faculty, MNIT University Jaipur, delivered a talk on “Detecting and Avoiding Plagiarism in Academic Writing”.

Previously, during the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Meenakshi Gupta, Co-Convener of the workshop welcomed the dignitaries and participants. Dr. R.K. Mishra, the Program Coordinator, highlighted the ethical concerns related to plagiarism. Dr. Sunanda Gupta, Faculty, School of Computer Sciences & Engineering, SMVDU proposed the vote of thanks.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework of Ministry of Education, Government of India is a mechanism which ranks the institutions based on their academics, research and student outcome achievements. As per the e-Release, the highly prestigious National Institutional Rankings Framework 2021 Rankings were released by Hon'ble Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan on 09th September 2021 and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has been ranked 79th among the 1,143 institutions participating in the engineering category in India which includes almost all IITs, IIITs, NITs, GFTIs, Universities and private institutions offering the engineering program in the country.

SMVDU has also added another feather in its cap by obtaining the 24th rank in India among the institutions offering the architecture program in the country. The university has also been ranked among the Top 100 Management Institutions in the country among the 659 participating management institutions which is the same ranking that SMVDU had obtained in NIRF 2019 & NIRF 2020. SMVDU has also been ranked the Top 150 universities in the country, a ranking it has maintained since 2019.

It is notable that SMVDU has been consistently improving its ranking in the Engineering category with rank 94 in NIRF 2018, rank 85 in 2019 and Rank 78 in NIRF 2020 even as the number of participating institutions has increased tremendously. Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. R.K. Sinha congratulated all the students, faculty and staff members of the university and said “The NIRF rankings are a great source of guidance for the parents and students seeking admission to the various programs every year as they can see the performance of the various universities and make sound judgement regarding their career aspirations. The NIRF ranking, being conducted by Ministry of Education, government of India are credible and can’t be manipulated”. SMVDU had also obtained the 80th rank globally and 3rd Rank within the country in the International Times Higher Education Impact ranking 2021 under Sustainable Development Goals: Affordable and Clean Energy category (SDG-7) while the University had been ranked in the band (6th-25th) in the Govt. & Govt. aided universities in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements 2020 thus highlighting the innovation and research focus of the university.

The School of Computer Science and Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), organized a webinar on "Introduction to Machine Learning” in line with the PM's vision of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on 6th September 2021.

The Webinar was held virtually via Google Meet and organized by Mr Manoj Verma, Faculty, School of Computer Science & Engineering (SoCSE), SMVDU. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Ajay Kaul, Faculty, SoCSE in which he highlighted the relevance of the webinar's theme, stating the role of Machine Learning in the present time.The keynote speaker of the webinar, Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Thapar University, Patiala, emphasized the “Importance of Machine Learning”. He discussed various Machine Learning-based applications and models that are being used on a daily basis which are transforming the technology and making it capable of doing complex jobs. Ms Insha Altaf, Research Scholar, of SoCSE, delivered the vote of thanks.

Narindra Safaya, President, 'Heritage Kashmir', Writer & Author; Sh. Inayat Gul, General Secretary, 'Kashmir Markazi Adab va Sakafat', Poet and Author; Smt. Ujjwal Handoo, Writer, Author; Ms. Aroosa Ashraf, Writer & Author; Sh.Chashool Mahaldar, Artist & Filmmaker; Sh. Ali Ahsan, Writer and Author ; Ms. Deeba Nazir Khan, Writer and Sh. Sunil Raina Rajanaka , Artist, Writer.

Dr. Virendra Bangroo said that in Indian tradition, women are held in high esteem and have contributed to every walk of life. Smt. Dolly Tikoo Arwaal, recited the Vaak of Lal Ded in her beautiful voice. She briefly described women saints and philosophers of Kashmir.Sh Narinder Safaya said that we have a complete chronology of rulers but not our women saints and scholars. Sh. Inayat Gul said there was no gender discrimination in Rishi order. Smt Ujjwal Handoo talked about the Vedic, Trika, and Upanishad impact on the sayings of Lal Ded.

Miss Aroosa Ashraf said that Lal Ded was the first mystic poetess of Kashmir and one could infer from her saying that women in Kashmir were liberal and received an education. Sh. Chashool Mahaldar shared his experiences while directing a documentary for IGNCA. He emphasized the need to create awareness about the composite culture of Kashmir. Sh. Ali Ahsan gave a detailed account of women disciples of Sheikh Noor U din.Ms. Deba Nazir said that there have been women empowerment in Kashmir for ages, and women contributed in all spheres of life.Sh. Sunil Raina Rajanaka said that Kashmir is the land of the Mother goddess and her shrines are all over the valley.

As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, celebrated the Teachers’ Day, the birth anniversary of the 2nd President of India Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan (1888-1975) on 5th September 2021. On this occasion, the School of Philosophy & Culture (SoPC) collaborated with the School of Languages and Literature (SoLL) in organizing a Panel Discussion on "The Role of the Teachers of Higher Education as it is conceived in the New Education Policy of India 2020".

The program began with the welcome address by Dr. Isha Malhotra, Head, School of Languages and Literature. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Anil K. Tewari, Asst. Prof., SoPC. The panelists included, Prof. Rajeev Garg, School of Architecture and Landscape Design, Dr. Sumeet Gupta, Dean of Research & Development, Dr. Balbir Singh, Dean of Students, Dr. Saurabh, Head, School of Business (SoB), Dr. Rashi Taggar, Asst. Prof., SoB, Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Asst. Prof., SoPC and Dr. Rajiv Kumar Atri, Asst. Prof., School of Mechanical Engineering.

The panelist underlined the significance of the learner centric approach in the higher education. The values of trust, love, care progressive thinking, patience, adaptability, character building and national spirit were emphasized. Around 50 students and faculty members participated in the discussion.Prof. RK Singh, Vice-Chancellor, and Sh. Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Registrar, SMVDU, conveyed their best wishes to teachers, students and staff members on the occasion. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sakshi Singh.

To spread awareness and to promote the Jammu region, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra, organized a workshop on “Jammu through the Ages: An Introspection”, through its Faculty Development Centre (FDC) under PMMMNMTT Scheme. The workshop was attended by faculty members of different Universities, Colleges, and practitioners from India and abroad. Dr. Isha Malhotra, the Programme Coordinator, delivered the welcome address. Sh. Sumanta S. Sharma, the Convener, apprised the participants and guests about the modus-operandi of the workshop. Dr. Suparn K. Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra K. Sinha, VC, SMVDU and Chief Guest, deliberated upon the need to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the region. He explained that the recent discovery of ape species in Ram Nagar area of the Jammu region indicates that the region has had a great significance since prehistoric times. Sh. Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Registrar, SMVDU, enumerated upon the art, culture, languages, and traditions of the different parts of the Jammu region. He highlighted products like Kishtwar Sapphires, arts like Basohli paintings, different pilgrimages, fairs along with rich floral and faunal biodiversity that makes Jammu region distinct.

Enriching the workshop with his presence and knowledge, Dr. Lalit Gupta, a distinguished culture and art historian, described the Jammu region as mini-India. He delivered a scholarly and elaborate presentation about the history and culture of the Dogras. He also emphasized the introduction of functional courses in SMVDU in different languages of the Jammu region.Dr. Javaid Rahi, a tribal activist, thoroughly explained the arts, architecture, language, and demography of Gurjara Pratiharas. He emphasized the need for transforming the University into the repository of ethnic, cultural history and documentation of intangible heritage. Sh. Mohan Singh, a Sahitya Academy Award Winner, delivered a presentation on the cultural values and geographical perspectives, highlighting traditions, mores, conventions, etc. of this region.Dr. Vinod Singh, Co-convener, delivered the vote of thanks to all the guests and the participants.

A two-week duration DST-NIMAT Project sponsored National level Faculty Development Program on ‘Entrepreneurship Development’ concluded at SMVD University. The event was organized by Faculty Development Centre-SMVDU in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU).

Padma Shri Prof. R K Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU appreciated the contents delivered during this wide-ranging Programme and conveyed best wishes to the participants. During the valedictory function, the Coordinator, FDC, SMVDU & Dean of Management, Dr. Suparn Kumar Sharma addressed the participants and assured of the continued excellence in the future programmes of FDC. Earlier, an overview of the upcoming programmes of FDC, SMVDU was presented in brief by Dr, Ratna Chandra, Member FDC, SMVDU and Coordinator of the programme, the Co-Coordinator of the workshop Dr, Jyoti Sharma conducted the proceedings of the function and the vote of thanks was presented by the Co-organizing Secretary Dr. Shazia Bukhari.

During the various sessions conducted, the participants were given wide exposure of knowledge and experience sharing by the resource persons from different Universities/ Institutes/Industries including Manipal Jaipur, NITIE, Mumbai, JKEDI, Edfora Group, Delhi, The Entrepreneurship School, Gurgaon, GNDU Amritsar, Tawi Arc Electrodes Pvt. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), organized a webinar on ''Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ with a focus on celebrating the cultural diversity of Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu.

Scholars and writers shared the knowledge of the cultural traditions and practices of both regions. Ms.D.Pushpa, Sh.J.Niranjan, Ms.S. Logamani, Ms. Varunani Ra Na represented Tamil Nadu, whereas Dr. Virendra Bangroo, Sh. Upinder Ambardar, Sh.Inayat Gul, Sh. Narindra Safaya and Sh. Swaran Singh Kohistani represented Jammu & Kashmir.Sh. Sumanta Sarthi Sharma, HoD, School of Philosophy and Culture, and Faculty Coordinator of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” SMVD University, welcomed all participants. Dr. Bangroo, Regional Director, IGNCA talked about cultural relations and assimilations, which led to the emergence of one nation since time immemorial.

Ms. D. Pushpa, teacher and social worker, spoke on the topic, “The beauty of Nilgiri.” She gave a socio-cultural account of tribes and communities living in the region. Sh.J.Niranjan, a Documentary filmmaker, gave a presentation on Art and culture (cinema). He talked about the universal appeal and impact of Indian cinema cutting across the barriers of language. Ms.S. Logamani, the teacher, gave an illustrated account of the temples and culture of Tamil Nadu. Ms.Varunani Ra Na, a Teacher, talked about Tamil Nadu Food and hospitality. She also spoke about the wazwan of Kashmir. Tamil cuisine originating in the southern Indian state Tamil Nadu and other parts of South Asia like Sri Lanka is now famous all over India.

Sh. Upinder Ambardar, a writer, gave an overview of the Spiritual landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. Sh. Inayat Gul, writer, poet, gave a presentation on the Composite Culture of Kashmir. He talked about the Rishi cult of Kashmir, which has got universal appeal. Sh. Narindra Safaya, writer, poet talked about cuisine and culture and said that south Indian food is known nationally and internationally. Swaran Singh Kohistani, Poet and writer, shared his views on the cultural heritage of the Duggar region. Jammu province is rich in ecological and cultural diversity. Sh. Sharma, HoD, SoPC, SMVD University, thanked the participants for delivering the lectures. He also thanked the SMVD University and IGNCA administration for their constant support.

The webinar was scheduled online on September 12, 2021.

Learned speakers of this webinar were Dr.Virendra Bangroo, Director, IGNCA, Regional Centre (J&K); Miss. Siama Ashraf, student; .Mr.Inayat Gul, poet and author; Mr.Ali Ahsan, author; Mr.Farooq Wani, Editor- in -Chief Daily Brighter Kashmir; Mr.Yunis Waheed., author; Mr.Rajesh Amrohi, filmmaker and Ms.Dolly Tikoo (Arrval), poet.

Mr. Sumanta S. Sharma, Faculty Coordinator, EBSB, SMVD University Katra, welcomed the speakers and thanked SMVDU and IGNCA, for the collaborative venture to bring forth the exquisite jewels of our country. In his welcome speech, Mr. Sharma said that our country's diversity and cultural unity make it outstanding, and the Government of India initiative of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat is a proactive step towards it.

Dr Virendra Bangroo, Director, IGNCA, Regional centre shared information regarding IGNCA its activities and archives. He informed that IGNCA has a repository of manuscripts in digital and microfilm form, documented from Oriental libraries and museums in India and abroad. He said that IGNCA organized the Kashmir festival and other Programs to highlight Jammu and Kashmir's rich cultural, artistic, and literary heritage in the past.

Ms. Siama Ashraf invigorated the online ambience with the recitation of Vaak of Lal Ded and Shrukh of Nund Reshi. Her beautiful voice and lyrics of Sufi saints kept the audience spellbound.

Mr. Inayat Gultalked about the message of Sufis that is oneness with God and to be kind to all human beings. Rishis and Sufis were exemplary in their actions. Smt.Dolly Tikoo (Arrwal) said that Kashmir has been the land of different philosophies, which came into existence from time to time.

Mr. Ali Ahsan said that he is delighted to be part of the webinar organized by the University at the sacred and holy shrine and at the same forum discussing the role of Nund Reshi and his sacred Ziariat at Tsrar, Kashmir life.

Mr.Rajesh Amrohi, Delhi based filmmaker stressed upon the fact that the entire global ecological imbalances, environmental problems and devastations happening around us are nothing but a result of spiritual crisis. Mr. Farooq Wani said that Kashmir is the land of Sufis and has a very rich Sufi culture tradition. For centuries Kashmir had been exemplary in practicing and promoting syncretic culture.

Mr. Younis Waheed in his speech emphasized on peace, brotherhood, and unity. The Rishi tradition of Kashmir is very old; it resembles the Sufi tradition in many ways. In this tradition Vedic religion and Buddhism is seen. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sumanta S. Sharma, who is also the Head of the School of Philosophy & Culture at SMVD University.

Mr Akash Shrivastava, an alumnus of School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, launched his product "Carbadex" under Flydex Automobiles Private Limited which is a Government of India recognized startup founded by Akash Srivastava on 13th June 2017.

"Carbadex" works on the principle of Go Green, Go Longer, Go Safe and Go Economic which was initially financially supported by SM, a recognized organization of Startup India of Technology Business Incubation Center (TBIC), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The product increases the fuel efficiency of the engine, and almost doubles the mileage of the two-wheeler. In this process, it also reduces pollution levels by 3 to 4 times. MLA Harshvardhan Bajpai, Chief Guest of the function, attended the launch ceremony of its product Carbadex, while addressing the function he said that there is a need to encourage such inventions to take the country forward at the technological level.

Sh. Angrez Singh Parihar, Physical Director, Govt. Degree College, Thathri, J&K, delivers a lecture on National Sports Day, organized by the School of Languages and Literature, SMVDU.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Anurag Kumar and Dr. Ravi Parihar, Faculty, School of Languages and Literature, SMVDU. During the talk, Physical Director, Sh. Parihar, motivated the students of SMVDU, and encouraged them to participate actively in games & sports. He emphasized that the games and sports make us physically and mentally stronger than the non-participating ones. He also said that many universities offer academic courses in Physical Education, and even the students from poor family backgrounds may secure seats after qualifying the entrance exams.He answered the questions posed by students of SMVDU. The students got motivated, and learnt the significance of games and sports in life. The event was organized as the commemoration of Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Students of SMVD University from different Schools (Management; Physics; ECE; CSE; Biotech; SoL&L; Mathematics; EE; etc.) participated in an Essay Writing Competition on "World Nature Day".

The event was coordinated by Dr. Ravi Parihar and Dr. Amitabh V. Dwivedi, Faculty, School of Languages and Literature, SMVDU. The faculty duo adjudged the top three students who got the positions respectively: Palak (20mmb090); Tania (19MPY040); and Sheena Raina (20mmb052). The event was the part of the celebrations of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The toppers were awarded with a certificate of distinction, and other participants had received certificates of participation.
