Department of Physics was established in the year 2005-2006 as School of Applied Physics & Mathematics. However, in 2009, it evolved as a separate full-fledged Department. It is a research and teaching powerhouse dedicated to shaping the future by pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the classroom, laboratory, and field. Physics is the most fundamental of the sciences. Through, exceptional teaching, learning, and research experiences, we competitively position our students, staff, and faculty for current and future success. Physics is about fundamental understanding of the matter and interactions that we observe in nature, and relies on the language of mathematics for both development and communication. A major in Physics teaches us how to apply our knowledge of fundamental principles in a range of contexts. Applications of the principles of physics are everywhere: transistors, computers, optical fibres, quantum computing. Today, we are looking at the fabrication of nano-scale smart materials and alternative energy sources.
The objective of the Department is to pursue research besides offering courses to the Under Graduate and Post Graduate students in Science.
To disseminate scientific knowledge to students.
To shape the intellectual growth of the institution.
To provide education and training of excellent quality both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
To ensure that the University achieves and maintains an international standing in both teaching and research.
To promote study and research in new and emerging areas and encourage academic interaction of the faculty and students at national and international levels.
To encourage close collaboration with industry and facilitate the application of research for commercial use and for the benefit of society.
