Adjunct Prof. (Dr.) Ranjana Mittal, Professor at SPA-Delhi visited SMVDU for Expert lectures to the students and faculty of the department of Architecture and Landscape design, SMVDU (DoALD) from 11th-13th November-2016. Her visit was initiated with the meeting with the faculty for overall academic growth of department, chaired by Prof. V. Verma (Dean, FOE). Lecture series was conducted by Adjunct Professor for Semester III & V Students of the department on the subject âHistory of Architectureâ.
Prof. Mittal shared her vast knowledge in Hindu Temple Architecture and also gave a brief about her research work in Hindu Temple Architecture in India. Students had a interactive session of questions after the Lecture. The Visit also included a knowledgeable and Interactive session on Urban Design for Semester IX Students of B.Arch course, DoALD. Prof. Mittal also met with Honâble Vice-Chancellor and give way her valuable suggestions for Potential growth of Department at large.
Addressing the valedictory function of Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program(ESDP) conducted by Entrepreneurship Development Cell, SMVDU in collaboration with MSME Development Institute, Jammu, J&K, Sh. Chander Parkash Minister of Industries and Commerce, J&K State, called for technology based business to be initiated by the youth. Sh. Prakash distributed certificates to the participants and blessed them fortheir bright future and success.Industries Minister advised the participants to keep away from lofty business ventures and stressed on product quality consciousness while starting any business. Sh. Chander Parkash also highlighted about the rapid changes in trendpattern occurring in the business world. While asking for positive and effective youth energy, Sh. Chander Parkash emphasized on intelligent waste management and by-product management. He also emphasized on improved work culture in the society and imbibing modern and advanced business skills to compete in the market. Earlier, during the functionDr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU stressed on ethics in businessto achieve top notch position in their area of business ventures for long-run business success. Dr. Jain also highlighted the importance of intellectual property rights.Dr. Sanjeev Jain also encouraged first generation entrepreneurs to submit their proposal for business incubation center of the University for different kinds of support to encourage their business opportunities and success. During the valedictory function, Dr. Suparn Sharma, Chief Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, also gave details of the different sessions and industrial visits made during the event. Director, MSME, Mr. Virinder Sharma highlighted the different inputs given during the 30 working days training program in terms of marketing skills, production management, human resource management, etc. The program has also contributed towards the knowledge of various schemes available for finance, marketing, production, raw material to the participants.
The students of ESDP gave excellent feedback of different training sessions attended by them in this program. The prize winner business plan was also presented by the participants of the ESDP. Registrar, SMVDU, Mr. Ajay Khajuria Prof. V.K. Bhat, Dean FOMand Dr. Sushil Mehta were also present during the session apart from other dignitaries.
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University started a 2-day “National Conference on Information Technology and Business Analytics-NCITBA-17” here today which saw huge response with participation from 7 different states including Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. 1st day of the 2-day event was marked by a befitting inaugural function which began by the traditional lamp lightening.
In his welcome address, the convener of the conference and Head Dept. of CSE, Dr. Ajay Kaul emphasized the relevance of the conference theme, stating that “The prime importance today is how information can be converted into useful services and products”. The Patron of the conference Prof. V. Verma talked about IT and the role it can play in success of a business venture. He expensed hope that newer applications of IT may come up from such platforms. The Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. V.K. Bhat emphasized the fact that the research problems taken up by young researchers should be such that they focus on the roots of the technology so that the results of the research are universally applicable.
Guest of Honour on the occasion was Prof. Astrid Kiehn from Germany. She expressed her satisfaction at the conference theme stating that with a strong hold in theoretical aspects of Computer Science, the young students may have a plethora of opportunities to explore towards the applications of the same. Function concluded with the vote of thanks by the co-convener Dr. Sunanda.
Later during the day, Prof. Kiehn addressed the participants with a talk on “The Verification of Distributed Algorithms”, wherein she dwelled on the nuances of bi-simulation and concurrency theory. Another keynote address was given by Prof. Saroj Kaushik from IIT Delhi.
Dr. Naveen Gondhi, co-conveyer thanked the keynote speakers and expressed hope that the 2nd day conference shall provide a platform for fruitful discussions.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, SMVDU, participated in 6th International Conference on Advances in Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics (ICAESAM’2016) held at Grand Seasons Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in collaboration with International Institute of Engineers (IIE). The theme of the conference was “To discuss Engineering and Technology related latest developments through interactions amongst the researchers and academician across the globe on a common platform”.Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma presented a paper on “A low leakage input dependent ONOFIC approach for CMOS logic circuits” in the conference. The paper was focused on a possible method to design the low leakage power digital circuits.
National Level Faculty Development Programme on ‘’Entrepreneurship Development successfully concluded at SMVDU The program has been organized by Entrepreneurship Development Cell, SMVDU with the financial backing from Department of Science & Technology, NIMAT Project, Government of India. In his valedictory address, the Chief Guest of the function Dr. M.I. Parray, Director, Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) congratulated the organizing team of the event and highlighted the usefulness of such kind of progressive activities for the faculty members of diverse streams and from different institutions across the country.
Moreover, Mr. Parray laid stress on identifying inner strengths and exploring our ultimate goals. He emphasized on diminishing self-interest and enhancing an ever ending quest for bringing smile on the face of budding entrepreneurs. According to him, it is very important to acquire appropriate skills to be successful. During his interaction with the participants, he emphasized upon taking motivation from the hard work behind the success of the great personalities and called for recommending 10 students for further training at JKEDI by each participant of the said FDP.
With the help of real life examples and short stories, he explained the attributes of entrepreneurs and mentioned that commitment and dedication are the key virtues for enjoying success with flying colours on the path of entrepreneurial endeavors. The participants of the program belonged to different universities/institutions including Guru Jambeshwar University, Hisar; ManavRachna International University, Faridabad; Central University of Jammu; University of Jammu, NIFTEM, Kundli; BGSB University, Rajouri, SMVDU, College of Commerce, Patna, GCET, Jammu etc.
During the valedictory function, Chief Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, SMVDU & Associate Professor, School of Business, Dr. Supran Kumar Sharma briefed about the different activities conducted during the event. This program aspired to provide essential tools and techniques related with entrepreneurship development to the faculty members so that they can efficiently apply this know-how in their classroom teaching, research and self-generated new knowledge. This Two-week long program had encompassed of a range of lecturer sessions which comprised of case study analysis, panel discussions, business plan preparation, brain-storming, interface with successful entrepreneurs (Including Mr. T.V.S Gujral & Rajnish Sharma) library research, Industrial visit, role plays, etc. through contributions by esteem experts from academia, corporate and industrial training institutes including Mr. Saheel, Asstt. Director,MSME DI, Jammu; JKEDI; Prof. T.Prasad, NITIE Mumbai; University of Jammu; Dr. Zillur Rahman IIT Roorkee; Prof. Sudhir Jain, IIT Delhi, Dr. Satinder Kumar, Associate Professor, University of Jammu etc. apart from in-house faculty experts of SMVDU.

One day National Seminar on “Demonetization of Currency and Indian Economy" was organized by the Department of Economics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Kakryal, Katra. The Chief Guest/Key note Speaker for this seminar was Prof. Rajender Gupta (Dean Faculty of Social Science) University of Jammu .He shared his views regarding demonetization and its impact on different sectors of the economy. The Organizing Secretary of this seminar was Dr. Roop Lal Sharma welcome the participants to the seminar. He enlightened the participants about the pros and cons of demonetization on various economic variables and entities and provided information regarding the seminar. Prof. D.Mukhopadhyay encouraged the participants to exploit the opportunity and discussed the impact of demonetization on Indian Economy. Adding to the details about the program, there were two Technical Sessions chaired by Dr. Kuldeep Raj and Dr. Sandeep Bhougal where the participants presented their research papers. Various topics were discussed during this seminar which included Federal Fiscal Structure in India, Role of information in Consumer Decision Making Process of buying ACs, Money Supply in India: Issues and Challenges etc. A large number of papers were presented during the two technical sessions by participants both from the SMVD University as well as from various other institutions such as Jammu University, DDE Jammu, and GDC Udhampur etc. This one day national seminar ended on a very informative and productive note as various economic problems were discussed by the participants. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Saurabh Srivastava. He encouraged and appreciated them for availing the benefit provided to them by the Department of Economics through this seminar. He thanked administrative staff of university as well as the participants from various institutions for their active participation. The seminar concluded with the certificate distribution to all the participants.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra delivered an invited talk entitled, “Modelling Queues with Customers’ Impatience” in a Two Day National Conference on Advances in Mathematical Sciences (NCAMS-2016) at Department of Mathematics, Netaji Subhash Chander Bose Memorial Government College, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, INDIA during December 21-22, 2016.
Around 120 delegates from all over the India attended this conference and presented their research work. Prof. (Dr.) Yoginder S. Verma, Pro-VC, Central University of Himachal Pradesh was the Chief Guest of the conference. The Key Note address was delivered by Prof. Rajneesh Kumar (Kurukshetra University). Other invited speakers of the conference were Prof. R. P. Sharma (H.P.U. Shimla), Prof. Veena Sharma (H.P.U. Shimla), Prof. R. P. Urvashi Gupta (UICET, P.U. Chandigarh), Prof. K. L. Verma (Career Point University, Hamirpur) and Prof. S. K. Tomar (P.U. Chandigarh).
Dr. Rakesh Kumar discussed the basics and applications of queuing theory to the heterogeneous gathering in the conference. He then apprised the participants of the recent advances in queuing models with customers’ impatience. In particular, he presented his recent work on retention of impatient customers in queuing systems facing customers’ impatience. The lecture became very interesting amongst the audience when they started interacting.
He also chaired one technical session in the conference.
Dr. Rakesh expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the SMVDU authorities for permitting him to attend this conference. His thanks are also due to the organizers of the conference for inviting him to deliver this lecture.
Prof. (Dr.) V. Verma, Head, DoBT & Dean, Faculty of Engineering, SMVDU was awarded prestigious Distinguished Scientist Award in the World Congress on Biotechnology (Theme: Biotechnology for healthy & sustainable life) held at historic & renowned Taj Vivanta, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh from 15th to 16th December, 2016.
Besides, he delivered plenary lecturer on the topic “Bioprospecting fungal endophytes for Bioactive molecules”. The Conference was attended by about 500 Scientists & Scholars from India and many foreign countries. Prof. V. Verma also chaired two technical sessions in the Conference.
Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, participated in 6th International Conference on Materials Processing and Characterization (ICMPC) held in the Victoria University, Melbourne (Australia) from 5th to 7th December, 2016 in collaboration with Elsevier. The theme of the conference was “The Emerging Trends Related to Advanced Materials Processing, and Characterization” which was attended by researchers and academicians from across the world. Mr. Rajiv Kumar presented paper on “Natural Systems and Tribology - Analogies and Lessons”. The paper was related to drawing lessons of friction, wear and lubrication from natural systems.
