weather surrounding

The University is located on 470 acres of land in the lap of Trikuta Hills, the abode of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi at about 2700 feet above the sea level. The pyramidal type architecture merges beautifully with the valley like ambience of the surrounding serene hills. The surrounding green hills and the perennial stream of Jhajjar in the east minimize the effects of hot and cold winds and produce a pollution free atmosphere on the campus.

weather1The average day temperature in summer is around 35 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees Celsius lesser than the surrounding areas of Jammu region and the maximum and minimum temperatures in winter are about 14 and 5 degrees Celsius respectively. Moderately high hills full of trees and plants on the western side of the campus shields the campus, particularly the residential zone, from the long summer afternoons. The slight incline of the campus provides an ideal place for endurance exercises and the spiritual influence of the Divine Mother and Holy Shrine is palpable on the campus, which helps add spiritual dimension to the quality of scientific, technical and management education and life on the campus. An early morning and late evening walk, along the Shrine Axis and other loop roads, surrounded by evenly placed lovely trees and clear sky with sparkling stars, is very refreshing for body, mind and the Soul.

There is a significant diversity in the cultural, regional, academic & economic background of the students enrolled at the university.

Students from 23 States of the country live and study on the campus. Each students brings his/ her varied background to the university which acts as a melting pot and makes the students feel part of a large family, the "SMVDU Family"

This diversity among the students ensures maintenance of a cosmopolitan culture within the campus where each student respects the other's diversity. This makes the students become broad minded and open to accept other cultures.

The university has a very healthy gender ratio among the students with Male to Female ratio at 2:1, which is an extraordinarily healthy ratio for atechnical university.

Some interesting statistics pertaining to student diversity are:

Studentprofile

Office of Dean-of-Students (DoS) functions as a centre to promote cooperation and fellowship among students on campus, to build their personality and making their stay comfortable on the campus. The responsibilities of the office includes: hostel administration, extra-curricular activities, welfare, conduct, discipline, fee concessions, and health of students

The office is actively involved in coordinating activities for the welfare of students. Taking into account their socio-economic diversities against their cultural relativism, it provides them facilities to articulate their creativity and aspirations. The students are encouraged to give expression to their talents to enrich our social fabric and improve campus life besides pursuing their academic targets. This aims at shaping students into social assets, making them complete citizens along side their academic accomplishments.

The office ensures that the following are not allowed on the campus: Plying of powered vehicles, reckless driving, possession of valuables/arms, possession/use of intoxicants, and use of cell phones in academic area.

Further, as industries look for graduates who are good both in studies as well as extra- and co-curricular activities, well-versed in corporate etiquettes, and have knowledge of additional global languages, and are at the same time good human beings, so the office of the Dean of Students provide them opportunities for participation in a variety of activities, other than those of academics, like:

In order to give the much needed exposure to the students outside the campus, this office coordinates different cultural and academic tours for them and arranges travel concessions for them. Among its other valuable activities for the students is to maintain and supervise book-shop, stationary shop, to serve the students at economical rates.
