An Interview with Dr. Ankush Anand, Lecturer, School of Mechanical Engineering PDF Print E-mail
sme_fac_ank_and Dr. Ankush Anand is a Lecturer in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the university. Dr. Anand has an excellent academic record and is a Ph D from SMVD University. His research area is Design Through Life Cycle Engineering and he has published extensively in this area. Dr. Anand shares his ideas & thoughts with us.

Dr. Anand, many thanks for taking time out and speaking to us. Sir, tell us a little bit about your Academic and Research background?

Dr. Anand: After receiving B.Tech. in Production Engineering, wherein I was Honoured with Distinction (Ist with Distinction), I joined School of Mechanical Engineering, here at SMVDU in June 2005. I have carried out Research Work in the area of Design of Mechanical Systems through Sustainability. The research work has been published in International Journals of exceptionally high repute. These include American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and others. I am also a member of various professional bodies like ASME (USA) and ISTE (India).

Dr. Anand, Can you tell us a little bit about the field of Mechanical Engineering in general and the current research areas? What are the Career options for students in these fields currently?

Dr. Anand: Mechanical Engineering is one of the core fields of Engineering. It involves various aspects related to machines, mechanisms, analysis of systems, etc. It also includes the characterization of materials and manufacturing of products. As far as Research in Mechanical Engineering is concerned, a wide range of areas is available today before the researchers. This is due to the fact that research has now become an interdisciplinary mechanism. However, some of the thrust areas which are of greater relevance to Mechanical Engineering, in the current scenario include Design and Development of Mechanical Systems, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Energy storage and utilization, Non-traditional Machining, Materials Processing and Characterization, Robotics, etc..

What are the current research projects that you are working on? What are the research areas that the School is focusing on?

Dr. Anand: Currently, I am working in the area of tribo systems and design and development of some biotribological systems. The school of Mechanical Engineering is focusing on various research areas which include: non-traditional machining, characterization of some tribo elements, etc.

Dr. Anand, currently the field of Mechanical Engineering of closely coupled with the field of Energy. What is your take on this and what would you suggest the students in this light?

Dr. Anand: Material Conservation and Energy Conservation have become the major thrust area before the scientists of today’s competitive world. The endeavor of the present day designer/engineer is to design and develop systems which focus mainly on sustainability issues. Therefore, the student community must involve themselves in activities where a better understanding of some issues likes materials recycling, material conservation is aimed at.

Dr. Anand, What is your impression about the students here at SMVDU and what is your advice to them for achieving success in their career?

Dr. Anand: The School of Mechanical Engineering is in existence since 2005. The quality of the students admitted to this University can be well gauged from the merit of All India Exam (AIEEE) through which the students enter this institute. Students from various geographical locations throughout the country are pursuing different courses of study, here at SMVDU. These students are trained with a mission to enhance their skills in various engineering disciplines, so as to prove their marketability in global scenario. My advice to our students is to master themselves in various areas of engineering science and to keep themselves ready to meet the challenges ahead.

Dr. Anand, What is your advice for achieving success in the mission and vision of SMVDU?

Dr. Anand: In a span of less than a decade, SMVDU has created a name for itself, within and outside the country. The strength of a University can be gauged by the level of Research and development contributions by its Faculty and the marketability of its students. To achieve paramount success, a visionary approach in an organization is a key, which involves a creation of an environment with greater focus on innovative procedures and policies through research and academia, for the overall development of the university and society as a whole.
