SMVDU to Host International Conference on Renewable Energy

Department of Energy Management, SMVDU in collaboration with Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology (SERB, DST), Government of India is going to host an interdisciplinary two-day long International conference on the theme Renewable Energy for Sustainable Environment: Challenges and Remedies (ICRESE-2017) at the University. SMVDU being the only institution in J&K to offer an interdisciplinary post-graduation and doctoral programme in renewable energy. Shri Chander Prakash, Hon`ble Minister for Industries & Commerce, J&K Government will inaugurate the conference on 20th March`2017. Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, shall preside over the inaugural function with Dean Faculty of Engineering and other faculty members of the SMVDU will also participate in the inaugural function.

Dr. Sanjeev Anand, I/c Head Department of Energy Management and Convener of an International Conference has confirmed that the conference will witness the participation of around 150 senior faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students from various reputed Research Institutes, Universities and Colleges of the state, country and abroad. The objective of organizing an Interdisciplinary conference on Renewable Energy is to provide a platform for scientific interaction, to develop scientific temperament in the youth, to disseminate information about latest developments in the field of renewable energy and to provide an opportunity for young researchers of the country to interact within themselves and with the senior scientists. This will also create opportunities for solving local and global problems through national and international collaborations in research programmes which naturally would bring indigenous and foreign attention.

Dr. Sanjeev Anand, apprised that presently the contribution of technology based on scientific aptitude has been a driving force in changing lives of millions of people across the globe and we are standing on an interface of technological revolutions happening in various scientific endeavours. So, the objective of organizing an Interdisciplinary conference on Renewable Energy for Sustainable Environment: Challenges and Remedies (ICRESE-2017) will serve as a platform for scientific interactions focusing around various interesting themes which include innovative approaches in the Clean and Renewable Energy sectors based on harnessing of different renewable energy forms for different applications. However, advancements in Power and Materials for Energy Engineering, Environment and Waste to Energy, Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Assessment of Available Technologies, Environmental Issues and their Mitigation and Policy Issues for making alternative sources of energy as well as technologies affordable are also the topics to be delivered upon in the conference.

Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University while expressing his satisfaction over the arrangements for this mega event, conveyed his best wishes to the Convener, Organizing Secretary and his team for the successful organization of the International Conference.

Dr. Vineet Veer Tyagi, Organizing Secretary who was also present at the occasion, said that scientists/academicians from country and abroad, working extensively on the core areas of renewable energy and their related issues have been requested to be as Plenary, Keynote and Invited speakers. Few would also chair the technical sessions in the conference for giving a first-hand feedback to the presenter. There will be number of venues/sections for technical sessions that will include oral and poster presentations on the conference theme. In each section best oral and best poster award will be given to young researchers.

The special invitees who would deliver plenary lectures during the conference include Prof. N.K Bansal, Sintex Chair Professor; CEPT University; Ahmedabad, Former Vice Chancellor SMVD University J&K, Prof. (Retd.), CES, IIT Delhi, New Delhi, Prof. Nasrudin Abd Rahim, Director & Founder; UM Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and Prof. D. Buddhi, Vice Chancellor, Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur.

Keynote speakers during the conference include Dr. Vinod Kumar Sharma, Department of Energy, Division for Bioenergy, Bio-refinery and Green Chemistry ENEA Research Centre, Italy, Prof. Kumaran Palanisamy, Director, Institute for Sustainable Energy, University TenagaNasional (UNITEN), Jalan, Selangor, Malaysia, and Dr. S. K. Tyagi, Thermo-chemical Conversion Division, Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Renewable Energy, Kapurthala-144601 (Punjab) India.
