SMVDU, Katra: A guest lecture was conducted by Prof. M. Balakrishna from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He talked about Assistive technologies for differently-abled persons. He discussed the problems faced by the visually impaired persons in daily life. He told about his project named ASSISTECH which is intended to help visually impaired people by solving two main problems for them namely education and mobility and develops economically viable devices. The project was started as a student project in IIT Delhi whose product is now used by a lot of impaired persons. He motivated students to take up such initiatives to help differently-abled persons and how we can use technology to make their life easier. He explained the working of devices which they are developing namely Smart Cane, On Board etc. He also showed students one of the device which they are developing. During the lecture, Dr. Ajay Kaul, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SMVDU and other faculty members and a lot of students were present. The lecture was followed by extensive interactive session.

SMVDU Katra: Five students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University participated in the 7th Indian Student Parliament (ISP), also known as Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS), organized by MIT – School of Governance (SOG) Pune, held from 17-19 January. All five were selected for the auditions of speeches in the preliminary round and two of them namely Ms. Khushboo Julfi and Mr. Rashid Altaf were selected for final round imposing opportunity to speak in presence of more than ten thousand audience comprising students from all across the nation, political and intelligentsia bigwigs, academician, parents and social activists. Ms. Khushboo spoke on “Black Money and Elections: Who will Bell the Cat” and Mr. Rashid on “Freedom of Expression: How Much Is Too Much”, receiving unending applaud from the audience. Dr. Sanjeev Jain, the Vice Chancellor extended a hearty congratulation to both the speakers and participating students.

Apart from these two, Akash Srivastav, Manglam Mishra, Roy Keshav Sharma also participated and their speeches were also selected in the first round. The ISP was addressed by the speakers like Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Arnav Goswami, Baba Ramdev, Swami Vigyananda, Vijay Goel and alike. The event is the biggest platform in India for sensitizing the youth towards their responsibility for nation building and emerging challenges of the future.

Physical Training Session conducted in the Sports Ground

A physical training session was organized in the sports ground of SMVDU at 8AM on 13th Jan. 2017. Around 100 students participated in the session and performed various exercises for an hour under the guidance of Dr. V.K. Tripathi, Dr. A.K. Tewari, Dr. A.K. Tarai and Dr. M.M. Chaturvedi. Three Days MDP for Officers of J&K Bank Inaugurated at HRDC, SMVD University

A three day Management Development Program (MDP) on “Capacity Building for Bank Officers/ Mangers” organized by Human Resource Development Centre (H.R.D.C.), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (S.M.V.D.U.) and sponsored by J&K Bank, was inaugurated on 19th Jan. 2017 at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). Senior J&K Bank Officers/ Managers are the participants in the MDP.

20012017 news hrdc 2Welcoming the Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University & other participant; Dr. Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Organizing Secretary of the programme detailed about the objectives and schedule of the programme. Appreciating the enthusiasm of the participants, he also said that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University will endeavor to arrange these kinds of programmes in future.

In his address, Prof. (Dr.) D. Mukhopadhyay (Director I/C, H.R.D.C.-S.M.V.D.U.) gave a brief about Human Resource Development Centre of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, its establishment, approaches and prime objectives. He also appreciated Jammu & Kashmir Bank for their consistent support to the program.

Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University appreciated J&K Bank officials/mangers for their participation and expressed hope that three days Management Development Program shall provide a platform for fruitful capacity building.

SMVDU, Faculty attends the conference and session chair CICN 2016

10012017 ece akp01Dr. Amit K Pandit, Associate Professor and HoD, DoECE attended the 8th IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Communication Networks (CICN 2016) at THDC, Tehri Uttaranchal. He presented a paper titled ‘Design of Two-Stage CMOS Operational Amplifier for Sigma-Delta ADC.

Dr. Amit also chaired a session at the conference. The conference was attended by participants across the globe. The conference proceeding will be available at IEEE Xplore and will be indexed by many databases.

The Conference was organised to bring together worldwide leading researchers, developers, practitioners and educators interested in advancing the state of the art in computational intelligence and communication Networks for exchanging knowledge that encompasses a broad range of disciplines among various distinct communities.

Dr Amit K Pandit expressed thanks the university for providing the financial grants from Professional Development Grant scheme.

SMVDU, Faculty got Research Award and attends the conference along with session chair RTCSE'17

10012017 ece akp01Dr Amit K Pandit, Associate Professor and HoD, DoECE attended second International Conference on Recent Trends in Computer Science and Electronics Engineering (RTCSE'17) at Swiss Garden Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Conference was organised to attract innovative technical and scientific work in the field of computer science and electronics across the globe.

He presented a paper titled "Novel Block Matching Reduced Complexity Motion Estimation and Compensation Algorithm for Mobile Domain: DBTSSDS".

Dr. Amit is also awarded “Award of Research Excellence” for the work. The award was presented to him by Prof D. M. Akbar Hussain, Aalborg University Denmark and Conference Chair. The paper is also recommended for publication in Thompson Reuters Index journal by the reviewers.

Dr Amit also chaired a session at the conference. The conference was attended by participants across the globe.

The work presented is an outcome of UGC sponsored major project and is an extension of previous published work cited by many researchers.

SMVDU Faculty Presents paper at International Conference on Recent Trends in Recent Trends in Computer Science and Electronics

10012017 ece anil01Mr. Anil Kumar Bhardwaj , Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, SMVDU, participated in 2nd International Conference on Recent Trends in Recent Trends in Computer Science and Electronics held at Swiss Garden Hotel, Kuala Lumpur held in collaboration with Gyancity Research Labs. The theme of the conference was “To discuss Engineering and Technology related latest developments through interactions amongst the researchers and academician across the globe on a common platform”. Mr. Anil Kumar Bhardwaj presented the following paper in the conference “Analysis of Multiple Hidden Layer Vs Accuracy in Performance Using Back Propagation Neural Network ” . The conference was attended by participants across the globe. Mr.Anil Kumar Bhardwaj is very much thankful to Vice Chancellor Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University to provide Professional Development Assistance to him for attending this conference. The interaction with global experts is of great worth for him in near future.

DoALD student invited to Dolby Digital Studios-Mumbai

Jigyas Bora, A 5th semester student of DoALD is pursuing research under the guidance of Ar. Anoop Sharma, Dr. Ranjan Bordoloi, Ar. Aditya Kr. Singh, which is based on the aim to lower down the cost of sound production with the help of precise interior acoustics at a low cost.

As a part of this research, he won a chance to go to Mumbai to work under the guidance of Dolby Digital approved studios of Bollywood, where he received guidance from scientists, sound designers (including Mr. Jatin Sharma -A star sound designer having expertise in studio acoustics), composer and musicians to pursue further research work. He also received blessings from celebrity artists Angarag Mahanta (Papon) and Pritam Chakraborty, Anurag Saikia (Rajat Kamal Award Winning Music Composer). He also got a chance to work with experts from T-series and Yamaha as well. His Trip was fully sponsored by these Studios.

He received guidance regarding acoustic treatment for low frequency sound waves and guidance for series of experiments for the same. His final product of the research would provide chance to budding musician and other entrepreneurs related to sound production to record sound within a low cost.

DoALD students competition entry shortlisted for reputed University of Westminster Design Trophy-2016

Project Pagdandi, an initiative taken up by the students of Department of Architecture and Landscape Design (DoALD), SMVDU has been selected in Top - 19 (among SAARC Nations) in the International competition hosted by the University of Westminster (UoW), London. Through this initiative the students are doing their bit in making Sirah-Village (small village adjoining SMVD University Campus) a €œmodel village and give back what has unknowingly been taken away from the upcoming generation by helping the village cope with new challenges that have come along in this transition from rural to rurban.

The students collaborated with the Block Development Authority (BDA, Block Panthal) and worked on waste management by getting 5 dustbins installed along the stretch, spread awareness against the burning of plastic waste, indulged in beautification of the market wall through informative graffiti and art work, planted Neem trees along the stretch. They have collaborated with Shrine Board in helping them design a boundary wall, an initiative taken under the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) project for the primary school, Sirah which also provides a safe recreational zone for the village kids who are usually seen playing along the street or working in shops after the school hours.

University of Westminster, London through the competition has captured the creative energies of over 1500 registered participants from 87 colleges and Universities, enormous support from local communities and local authorities from 42 towns and cities, and has transformed 100 public spaces in South Asia within two years and strongly believes that these '100 Massive Small Changes' will inspire several more in the near future.

Pertinent to mention here that DoALD students entry The Unknown Place (implemented just behind the department building in SMVDU campus) was amongst the top 04 entries of the world in last year'€™s International competition hosted by the University of Westminster (UoW), London.
